ATTENDEES • Arts Administrator o Kathleen (Kat) Wang • Chairperson o Kimberly Freeman • Commissioners o Noah Aychby (Zoom) o Meredith Clipp-Rodriquez (Zoom) o Jackie Hawkins o Dr. Allison Miller o Donna Reed o Monica Uhl (Zoom) • Secretary o Joanna Peyron ABSENT • Amy Semones, Co-Chairperson • Andy Crouch, City Engineer GUEST ATTENDEE(S) • Gabe Miller • Sophie Carson OLD BUSINESS • Approve minutes from April 14, 2024 meeting o Commissioner Reed motioned to approve the minutes. o Commissioner Miller seconded. o The motion to approve the April 14, 2024 meeting minutes passed unanimously. • Side yard of Art Center - Brainstorm (Administrator Wang) 4 o This is where the water tower and story trail are located o Suggestions: • Sound garden like what's located at Mom's Music 1 ax JEFFERSONVILIE DATE: 5/12/2025 PUBLIC AR TIME: 5:30 pm ST CRE ATING IDEAS LOCATION: Mayor's Conference Room • Something experiential • Student Art Show - Breakfast Recap (Administrator Wang) O 12 of the 25 students attended with their parents and/or guardians o There are some opportunities for next year: • Coffee for adults • Scholarship from IUS • Bring in IUS students to talk about their journey • Earth Day Event Recap O 215 water bottles given out o Good attendance in a steady stream o Condense the event to smaller location o Placer Al data put attendance at 887 with an average stay of 89 minutes o The event coincided with Spring Street Fest which, typically, wouldn't happen O The Alcove pushed people to/from both events NEW BUSINESS • Teaming up with the Parks Department (Administrator Wang) o Idea to have artists was cut from Night Market, but will have: • Salsa, flamenco dancers • Juneteenth artists o July 25 - Main Street Wine Walk will include artists inside the Soln building O Administrator Wang is working with studio artists to participate in an event in the fall • Cultural Pass: o Administrator Wang asked for availability to help clean and organize the Art Center during the last week of May • Help in preparation for Cultural Pass events • May 22nd dumpster will be delivered • May 27 to start work • Chairperson Freeman noted she can help • Commissioner Miller's son may be available to help • Could have a group go in on weekends or meet after work/evening if more folks are available • May 31 Cultural Pass kick-off • Jeffersonville Township Library 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. (changed to 1 - 3 p.m.) 2 JEFFERSONVILLE DATE: 5/12/2025 I PUBLIC ART- TIME: 5:30 pm � - ST CREATING IDEAS LOCATION: Mayor's Conference Room • JPAC will have booth there • There will be Cultural Pass information on flyers for Commissioners to pass out • Art Mobile o Instructors: Ashleigh Mortenson (4th year) and Deb Zimlich (art therapist & teacher) o The instructors plan to rewrite the lesson plans and create YouTube videos o Art Mobile will be at the Farmer's Market and Juneteenth events o Claysburg planting day for community garden; possible collaboration the for Art Mobile • Dependent on availability of Art Instructors • This will be a simple project, paint rocks for example • Paint Box Garden Future o Last will be the year for the paint box garden o The garden is located behind the Art Center and is very difficult to maintain and keepsafe for the community o The plants will be cultivated in the Fall o We will table suggestions for what to do with this area to next meeting • Mural update: new on IMPCO building o This building is located across from M Fine on Spring Street o Damon Thompson is starting new mural this weekend o The mural will include daffodils in honor of his mom who lived in the area • Brainstorm ideas and resources to promote when members of the community call asking for art-related events, i.e. art club/ theater club/ camps, etc. o Elementary and middle are most requested o Administrator Wang clarified people ask about places where kids can go over the summer for arts-related activities o Goal is to build a resource sheet for reference o Suggestions: • Adopt/Sponsor a week at Summer in the City and sponsor; Commissioner Wang will ask Parks & Rec • LVA at NoCo - all funded by sponsorship with a potential to I expand to high schools o Commissioner Miller will start a list and asked the other Commissioners to forward any information they have to her 3 ri JEFFERSONVILLE DATE: 5/12/2025 PUBLIC ARV TIME: 5:30 pm ST CREATING IDEAS LOCATION: Mayor's Conference Room o We will continue the discussion next month • Upcoming events (Administrator Wang) o May 16th (Friday): Shakespeare in the Park o May 17th (Saturday): Wine and Art Festival • The event is run by The Depot • We will help get artists • No other participation expected • Wine bottle auction is live now • Proceeds will go to the youth shelter o June - Oct.: Art Mobile at the Farmers Market - 2nd & 4th Saturdays o June 26-29: Cool Mountain: Hadestown, The Teen Edition • 4 nights, 2 matinees • The are our new studio 6 tenants a June 7 - presence at Pride Fest • Will have an art project: key chains • 4-8 p.m. • Ashley Morton will run • Previous Commissioner Teah Williams-Hampton will be there 6-8 p.m. o June/July: Cultural Pass • May 31st: Kick off at Jeffersonville Public Library 10 am — 1 pm (time changed to 1 pm — 3 pm) • The Art Center will be open on Mondays & Wednesdays, 9 am — 12 pm • Chairperson Freeman noted she can volunteer as much as possible • If others are interested, please check Sign-up Genius for open slots COMMISSIONER COMMENTS • Chairperson Freeman: Excited about the summer events. I'm ready to get outside • Commissioner Aychby: Have there been any submissions for sculptures? o Commissioner Wang: • No submissions yet • Sent out a call to artists in Indianapolis/Ohio. • Redevelopment is providing funds and wants to spend the money 4 /rrrrncn ' lm I r DATE: 5/12/2025 PUBLIC AR COMMISSION TIME: 5:30 pm ST CREATING IDEAS LOCATION: Mayor's Conference Room • Commissioner Wang sent out a targeted email to artists we've worked with in the past and they're working on ideas • Commissioner Clipp-Rodriquez: I look forward to what's coming up. I can bring the Catalyst group down to the library to sign up for the Cultural Pass. (Commissioner Wang is attending orientation tomorrow and will share new information, if available) • Commissioner Miller: I'm excited for the summer and the Cultural Pass • Commissioner Reed: Great job on pancake breakfast, good synergy. Looking forward to lots of fun, fantastic events. • Commissioner UN: Won't be at Pride Fest - visiting new grandbaby. I loved the planned activities. Will check sign-up genius for volunteer opportunities. Maker13 is holding a free coffee/pastries and discussion event about how Al can help you in your daily work - Wed, May 14; 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. Coffee will be supplied by inhouse coffee roaster.
