BEFORE THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE FIRE MERIT COMMISSION
RESOLUTION NO.2024-02
WHEREAS, pursuant to Ind. Code § 36-4-6-2,the City of Jeffersonville Common
Council (hereinafter the "Council"), is the legislative body of Jeffersonville City government;
and,
WHEREAS,pursuant to Ind. Code § 36-8-2-3, the City of Jeffersonville has established,
maintains, and operates a fire fighting and fire prevention system to preserve public safety and
provides facilities and equipment for that system(hereinafter, collectively referred to as the
"Department"); and,
WHEREAS,pursuant to Ind. Code § 36-8-3.5-10,the duly appointed City of
Jeffersonville Fire Merit Commission(hereinafter the"Commission") adopted the City of
Jeffersonville Fire Merit Commission Rules&Procedures(as amended from time-to-time by the
Commission, pursuant to amendment procedures set forth in City of Jeffersonville Fire Merit
Commission Rules and Procedures) (hereinafter,collectively referred to as the "Rules"); and,
WHEREAS, pursuant to Ind. Code § 36-8-3.5-12, the Commission is responsible for
establishing the methods and weight given to each of the statutory factors to be considered
during the application process, the competitive examination procedures for applicants, and the
establishment and certification of the Applicant Eligibility List for applicants, which includes the
establishment of passing scores; and,
WHEREAS, pursuant to Ind Code § 36-8-3.5-12(e),the Commission"shall adopt rules
for grading the applicants, including the establishment of a passing score," and the duly
appointed members of the Commission have adopted Rule &Procedure No. 2 Selection of
Applicants, Section III, Subsection A and B, which establish the procedures for passing scores on
the applicant written examinations; and,
WHEREAS, according to Ind. Code § 36-8-3.5-12(e) and Rules&Procedure No. 2:
Selection of Applicants, Section III, Subsections A and B,the top fifty (50) applicants from the
written examination, including any ties,with a passing score of seventy (70%)percent or more,
shall participate in interviews with panels established pursuant to the Commission rules; and,
WHEREAS, the duly appointed members of the Commission have conducted written
examinations of eligible applicants of the Jeffersonville Fire Department in conformity with the
Rules adopted by the Commission and Indiana Statutes governing Police and Fire Merit Systems,
and prepared a proposed list of eligible applicants to move on to interviews portion of the
applicant examination procedures; and
WHEREAS, by Resolution requiring a majority vote of the Commission,the
Commission would resolve to approve Resolution 2024-02, effective August 22,2024,
certifying the list of interviewees based on the results from the applicant written examinations.
The list is attached as "Exhibit A," incorporated herein by reference into this resolution.
