HomeMy WebLinkAboutJPAC May 13, 2024 DATE: 05/13/2024 PUBLIC AR COMMISSION TIME: 5:30 pm ST CREATING IDEAS LOCATION: Mayor's Conference Room CALL TO ORDER • Chairperson Callahan welcomed everyone to the meeting and called the meeting to order at 5:38 p.m. • The meeting was held in person at Jeffersonville City Hall, 500 Quartermaster Court, Jeffersonville, Indiana 47130. ATTENDEES • Chairperson o Rosy Callahan • Commissioners o Kofi Darku o John Edwards o Dr. Allison Miller (Zoom) o Donna Reed o Amy Semones o Monica Uhl (Zoom) o Teah Williams-Hampton o Sarah Young • Secretary o Joanna Peyron ABSENT • Kathleen (Kat) Wang GUEST ATTENDEE(S) • Andy Crouch, City Engineer OLD BUSINESS • Approve minutes from April 9, 2024 meeting o Commissioner Young motioned to approve the minutes. o Commissioner Reed seconded. o Motion passed unanimously. • Falls Landing Sculpture Selection Update (Mr. Crouch) o We have contracts with all artists and have sent base templates o We're expecting to install all of the sculptures in October. o All of the glass in the "umbrellas" was installed. o Electricity pending equipment from Duke. o We are working on getting temporary lighting. 1 DATE: 05/13/2024 10111 PUBLIC AR COMMISSION TIME: 5:30 pm START CREATING IDEAS LOCATION: Mayor's Conference Room • Volunteer Sign-up Sheet: Update (Mr. Crouch and Commissioner Young) We will need heavy support for Pride Fest (June 1) • There will be 2 shifts available • We need 4 more volunteers for Art Mobile project support o Ribbon cutting at the Jellyfish mural (May 25) • Need 1 person to assist Administrator Wang as needed • Commissioner Semones may be able to assist • Commissioner Reed may also be able to assist • Shift: 10 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. • Ribbon cutting at 12 p.m. Heavy support needed for the Holiday Art Market (1st Saturday in December) Juneteeth (June 14 - all day) • This is not our event, but is being held in the Art Center • Need 1 volunteer to help direct visitors • Shift: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. • Cultural Pass: Update (Mr. Crouch) • The Art Center will be open Mondays and Wednesdays, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. as part of Greater Louisville Cultural Pass program • We'll have "make & take" activities (self-led and will include instructions) available each day O We will need someone to open and monitor space; direct people within space and around the Arts District o Cultural Pass: June 1 through August 4 o Commissioner Young requested assistance putting together make & take kits. The kits will include: • A template • String • Stickers • Marketing materials o Commissioner Young asked any volunteers to connect with her if available to help • Nothing new to report on: • SOIN and partnerships o Possible Merchant Markets with The Depot • Upcoming events with the Parks Department at The Depot: • Wine After Work Networking event is this Wednesday O 80's Prom Event on Saturday 2 \ JEFFERSONVILLE DATE: 05/13/2024 PUBLIC AR COMMISSION TIME: 5:30 pm ST CREATING IDEAS LOCATION: Mayor's Conference Room NEW BUSINESS • REMINDER: Friday, May 17 Shakespeare Event (Midsummer Night's Dream) 0 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. at Big 4 Bridge o Commissioner Williams-Hampton and Chairperson Callahan are volunteering. • Aquatic Center Ribbon Cutting (Mr. Crouch) o Ribbon cutting is scheduled for May 25th (Aquatic Center opening day) o The ribbon cutting will start around 12 p.m. • Riley Carter (the muralist) will be there o We'll give away goggles, snacks, sunglasses, etc. for 1st 25 attendees • Budget for 2025 (Mr. Crouch) o Draft budget process starts June 1 o City Council expects to have budget approved in August o Administrator Wang will be preparing and planning 2025 events o Administrator Wang will have updates at our June meeting • Dogs Days of Summer: Update (Mr. Crouch) o Scheduled for September 7 at the Aquatic Center o Artists and other vendors will be there from 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. o We expect to have an art activity for the dogs o More details to come o Commissioner Young is looking for input on potential vendors and asked for the Commission to share any suggestions (ideally, vendors would sell dog-themed items) COMMISSIONER COMMENTS • Commissioner Edwards: Glad things are moving along • Commissioner Darku: Happy to have volunteers for upcoming events and to see the great programming that's been planned for the summer • Commissioner Miller: Appreciates Sign-up Genius and has signed up to volunteer when available. Suggested we attempt a "gorilla art" project and wrap trees with knitted items • Commissioner Young: Commented on the fantastic group of Commissioners and noted our job is valued even if we can't volunteer. • Commissioner Reed: If we need White Castle to support, they are very interested in participating in community activities. 3 JEFFERSONVILLE DATE: 05/13/2024 PUBLIC AR mMMISSION TIME: 5:30 pm ST RI CREATING IDEAS LOCATION: Mayor's Conference Room • Chairperson Callahan: Thanked everyone for being here, Commissioner Young for her organization, and Mr. Crouch for leadership. • Commissioner Uhl: Has a contact who makes bow ties for dogs and will share information with Commissioner Young for the Dog Days event • Commissioner Mille: Shared she has enjoyed her time on the Committee so far and helping with the GCCS Art Show.
