CALL TO ORDER
• Chairperson Callahan welcomed everyone to the meeting and called the
meeting to order at 5:39 p.m.
• The meeting was held in person at Jeffersonville City Hall, 500
Quartermaster Court, Jeffersonville, Indiana 47130.

OLD BUSINESS
• Approve minutes from meeting from March 11 , 2024
o Commissioner Uhl motioned to approve the minutes.
o Commissioner Reed seconded.
o Motion passed unanimously.
• Falls Landing Sculpture Selection Update (Administrator Wang)
Six sculptures were selected.
• Blue wave design by Wyatt Gragg
• Sun design by Joe Autry
• Red wave design by Tim Smith

• Series of three designs (Heron, Fish & Flower) by Peyton
Harshfield
o Administrator Wang will submit the designs to City Council to start
payments
o Once templates are distributed to the selected artists, we will be
able to get details from the artists on delivery and will schedule
ribbon cutting. Ribbon cutting projected to be in the Fall.
o Glass has been inserted into "umbrellas."
o Some minor items still need to be complete, include electricity.
o Commissioner Young suggested we order the plaques in advance
to ensure we'll them back in time for the ribbon cutting

o Art Show volunteers
• Kat sent out schedule
• Stop by on Saturday if can help
• Need help on Thursday, 3-6 or 5-6 p.m.
• Friday, May 17 Shakespeare Event (Midsummer Night's Dream)
• 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. at Big 4 Bridge
• Could use help with putting out chairs (5:30 - 6); Teah &
Rosy can help
• Performance starts at 6 p.m.

• Commissioner Young will promote on social media
• Cultural Pass: Update (Administrator Wang)
Fund for the Arts notified us that Stage One at The Art Center will
be on the Cultural Pass (June 8 and July 27)
Passes are available sometime in May with a kick-off at the Fund's
building at end of May
Fund for the Arts want to do more on this side of the river
• Nothing too major
• Will open Art Center for projects, art, etc.
• June & July
• Mondays and Wednesday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
• Administrator Wang is working with artist to do a
visiting artist on one of the days
• Focus on pre-K to 8 years old
• 8 days a month, 16 days for the season

• Commissioner Semones suggesting targeting
Mondays for pre-K to 8 years old and Wednesdays for
older kids
• For each scanned pass, we get $6 as part of a
reimbursement grant
• Details of the Cultural Pass program and projects will be
posted on our website and through social media
• Other ideas: music or dance day, etc.
The Fund for the Arts is working on an app to have the Cultural
Pass program available year round
Commissioner Young asked if we'll have a planning committee for
next year's cultural pass
• Administrator Wang noted we will start programming prior to
June when budgets are due
• The Fund opens the portal from submissions in February for
that year's Cultural Pass program participation
• Commissioners provided suggestions:
• Nature day (Chairperson Callahan)
• Dance day (Commissioner Uhl
• Writing day (Chairperson Callahan)
• Sound experiment day (Commissioner Miller
suggested we reach out to Conrad Music to bring out
multiple instruments)
• Elementary Art Show (April 11 - 21)
o See details above
o We'll provide sketch books to the artists with their names lasered
on the cover
• Commissioner Uhl with help with lasering
• Will laser the name on Friday live (4/12)
• Other days, will work in later and laser at another time and
return to the artist
• Partnership with GCCS Foundation
Commissioner Miller sent out tentative budget details
Still need more organization before sharing more broadly
• Story trail:
Chairperson Callahan and Administrator Wang meeting on Friday
and conducting research

• Coloring Book (Administrator Wang)
o New coloring book has arrived
o Images and the map have been updated
o The Art Mobile was added to back inside cover with QR code
o The back cover includes information on how to submit art and
suggestions
o Distribution:
• The books haven't been distributed yet
• Chairperson Callahan asked if we would distribute them at
the Art Show
• Administrator Wang noted we should save the for the
Cultural Pass events since only we only ordered 1,000
• Aquatic Center Ribbon Cutting (Administrator Wang)
o Riley Gregor finished the mural of the Jelly Fish
o Ribbon cutting is scheduled for May 25th (Aquatic Center opening
day)
o The Center is opening at 11 a.m.
o The ribbon cutting will start around 12:30 p.m.
• SOIN and Partnerships (Administrator Wang)
o Maya from the Indiana Arts Commission discussed community
grants are open to other art media, film, music, etc.
Open mic nights
• Work with Mark Maxwell for bands, singles
• Could hold at the Art Center or at the small stage at Soln
Visitor Center
• Other ideas:
• Art walks
• Film previews
• Artist talks
• Pre-concerts before big concerts at River Stage
• Keep art going through the Winter
• Partner with The Alcove — Commissioner Darku noted they
used to have open mic and poetry nights and would have
connections to local musicians
• Commissioner Young has connections with Louisville Music
community and can provide names/numbers
• Chairperson Callahan has a friend in Pekin who is a singer
songwriter

• Commissioner Reed brought up the idea of a "Speak Easy"
where you would follow us on social media to find out the
password to enter the event
• New Albany has a speak easy (High Street
Apothecary) and there are several in Louisville
• Possible Merchant Markets (Administrator Wang)
• The Alcove with Fat Cat Boutique are thinking about a once-a
month vintage market at the Depot
Asked if we'd want to participate and solicit artists to sell their
merchandise
• General plan, but details TBD:
• Start in Summer and continue through Winter
• Small, short events
• Would cap to —10 artists
• Establish a price range to ensure accessible to shoppers
• Administrator Want to keep the Commission posted on details as
they become available
COMMISSIONER COMMENTS
• Administrator Wang won't be able to attend the May 13th meeting
o Discussion around rescheduling
o Agreed to keep the meeting on the 13th
o City Engineer Crouch will fill in for Administrator Wang.
• Commissioner Williams-Hampton: Loves how expansive this feels, broad,
doable and inclusive; specifically, the updated map in the coloring book
• Commissioner Reed: Shout out to the Jeffersonville High School
Percussion team who won 2nd in the state.
• Commissioner Uhl: I'm excited about everything that's going on and yet to
come. Suggested a "Ready Grant" to set up recording studio in the Art
Center.
• Commissioner Young: Requested an update about the planned arts and
culture district meetings to collaborate and plan district wide activities or
interactions
Commissioner Wang met with the groups and will get back together
soon to establish a specific meeting cadence
• Chairperson Callahan: I'm excited about the continued ideation.
