HomeMy WebLinkAboutParks Authority March 25, 2024 Jeffersonville Parks Authority Monday, March 25, 2024 The Jeffersonville Parks Authority met in Session on Monday, March 25, 2024 in the Mayor's conference room on the third floor of City Hall. Members Present: Elizabeth (Lisa) Carter, Johnna Anderson, Debbie Pait, Gus Luckert, Pam Clark and Larry Jordan. Evan Stoner and Carmen Croudep joined via zoom. Stacie Thompson was absent for this meeting. Parks Staff Present: Paul Northam, Amber Ridings, Sara Nord, Tim McCoy, Olivia Mann, Amber Powell and Tara Young (via zoom). APPROVAL OF AGENDA— Member Anderson made a MOTION to approve the agenda, and the motion was seconded by Member Luckert. The motion passed on a vote of 8-0. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Member Luckert made a MOTION to approve the February 26th, 2024 minutes and the motion was seconded by Member Clark. The motion passed on a vote of 8-0. OLD BUSINESS—None NEW BUSINESS Tara Young presented several band contracts for approval, for both Riverstage and Steamboat Nights. Member Jordan made a MOTION to approve the contracts, and the motion was seconded by Member Clark. The motion passed on a vote of 8-0. All contracts are approved pending legal review. Amber Powell presented a couple contracts for The Depot. There was a Band contract for approval, and Member Jordan ask about the rider,which Amber replied this was the norm with many bands. The Alcohol Concession Agreement is the same as that of the Riverstage for an entire year with the option to renew. It was mentioned that Chris and Dan have been instrumental in the planning process with The Depot. Member Jordan made a MOTION to approve,and the motion was seconded by Member Clark. The motion passed on a vote of 7-0, as Member Stoner abstained. All contracts are approved pending legal review. Olivia Mann presented a revised price listing for the JAC Swim team. This adjustment has factored in cost of swim cap, cost of swimmer shirt, champ entries, insurance for SISA and the swimmingly app. The new swimmingly app was purchased, and has multiple enhanced capabilities (ex. communication and timing features). There has been a price increase on swim caps this year and new items have been added to the concession stand. Member Luckert ask who the JAC team competes against, which is West Clark and Floyd to name a few. Member Stoner stated he doesn't support increasing costs to residents for the new app purchase. Member Clark made a MOTION to approve the pricing adjustment, and the motion was seconded by Member Anderson. The motion passed on a vote of 7-1. Paul Northam presented a contract for a new Ventrac mower w/attachments. Tim explained the attachment is necessary to de-compact the soil to allow the seed to get deep enough. This includes aeration rollers and a seeder. Member Jordan made a MOTION to approve,and the motion was seconded by Member Clark. The motion passed on a vote of 8-0. MANAGER'S REPORT Due to schedule conflicts, Matt Slier and Ricky Romans weren't available to attend. Tara Young—The Easter Egg Hunt at Vissing Park is scheduled for this Saturday, March 30th from 2pm to 6pm. There will be DJ's, games for kids, and Southeast Christian Church will have a couple tents with craft activities. The Jammin' in Jeff schedule is totally booked for the 2024 Summer Concert Series. There was a planning meeting with The Alcove guys to serve themed drinks per band each Friday night. The line-up will be posted in mid-April. There will be a Thunder Over Louisville Food Court, set-up by the Louisville Food Truck Association. The goal is to include at least 15 or more vendors with a wide variety of cuisine. Amber Powell—Depot planning continues, and the St. Patty's Day event was awesome. There were lots of children, comments from families and an overall huge success. The next event will be a Derby Fashion Thrift Fair. Also attending will be a Hat Maker. The Depot will be open on April 13th for Prom picture-taking, and a rental is scheduled for April 28th. In May, there are several events scheduled beginning with Cinco de Mayo and an 80's Prom is planned. Member Stoner ask about having a TV station in attendance to promote The Depot. Amber is working on a media splash. Member Jordan ask if this information can be found on the Parks website, which was confirmed. In addition, it is also on Instagram. Tim McCoy—Completed pre-emergent to all landscape beds. Both mowing and landscape crews completed trimming, mowing and cleaning beds at The Depot. Pea gravel and weed matting was completed at Allison Brooke. Landscape prepping is scheduled for Vissing Park(for Easter Event). Chapel Lake bush hogging has been completed, and mowing will be on the regular schedule now. Olivia Mann—There is an Easter pitch-in scheduled later this week at the Ken Ellis Center. The Jeff Aquatic Center staffing is almost complete. There are 3 spots open in concessions. The opening pool projects have begun, and Olivia is ordering supplies needed for the 2024 season. Sara Nord -Tot's P.E. has just completed the first round. The cost for this is$50 for all sessions or$8 per session. Spring break basketball camp is this week, and includes 5-7 yr. olds and 8-12 yr. olds. DIRECTOR'S REPORT Paul shared the news that a Disc Golf course is coming to Chapel Lake Park. The target completion date will be late May or early June. Falls Landing has a new look, and the glass has been filled in. Stop by and take a look at this new feature. Poppy Park now has a new 1/2 basketball court, and the Oglesby project is moving along. Rock gravel is going in now. Member Luckert inquired of the total cost for this Pickleball project, and Paul will provide more information at the next meeting. REPORTS AND COMMENTS Parks Authority Attorney Report- NONE Public Comments- NONE Parks Authority Member Comments—Member Stoner said "thank you" to Tim and Maintenance, as the Parks look great! He also gave a "shout-out"to Hillary for the great job with the social media site. He stated that having a Disc Golf course is also awesome! Member Clark mentioned CPR classes will be held at the CASI building on April 13th at 1:00. This is being presented by the American Heart Association.
