MINUTES
February 12, 2024
Vice President Johnna Anderson called to order the February 12, 2024 Historic Preservation Commission
meeting at 5:30 p.m. in the Building Commission Conference Room at City Hall, 500 Quartermaster Court.
Members present were,Johnna Anderson, Jourdan Ford, Lisa Green and Paul Torp. President Ed Siewert
entered the meeting late. Members absent Maggie Moore and Jason Schlatter. Also,present Laura Renwick,
Historic Preservation staff advisor and Administrative Assistant Mary Frey. Guest, Jason Sams, Paul Maynard
and Jack Lindley.
Agenda
Lisa Green made a motion to approve the February 12, 2024 agenda with the addition of election of Officers,
seconded by Jourdan Ford and approved unanimously.
Minutes
Jourdan Ford made a motion to approve the Monday November 13, 2023 minutes, seconded by Lisa Green
and approved unanimously.
Certificate of Appropriateness
Jason Sams appeared before the Board to request a certificate of appropriateness for additional signage for
Southern Indiana Tourism located at 228 Spring Street. A flush-mounted"Visitor Center" sign will be installed
above the awning at their entrance, an interior vinyl window graphics for the south window facing Market
Street and a heat shrunk vinyl mural for the exterior of the building. The exterior mural is for picture
opportunities while visiting Jeffersonville. Lisa Green questioned if the signage was already in place, and Jason
Sams apologized stating he is looking for approval after the fact. Paul Torp questioned the color of the visitor
sign and Jason Sams stated that it would match the existing signage already in place. Jason Sams stated that
they have a sign located on the corner of the building. Laura Renwick questioned if a walk way was planned for
getting closer to the exterior mural. Jason Sams stated no walkway planned, but the landscaping in that area will
be cleaned up.
Laura Renwick stated she is comfortable with the signage application and commented that the vinyl conforms to
brick and can be easily be removed with heat. Paul Torp questioned the longevity of the exterior mural and
Jason stated it should last a long time. Lisa Green made a motion to approve the certificate of appropriateness
for 228 Spring Street signage as presented, seconded by Paul Torp and passed unanimously.
Paul Maynard appeared before the Board to request a Certificate of Appropriateness to replace missing cornice,
add a pergola in the back yard with an opening in the garage. The residence is located at 309 E. Riverside Drive.
Paul Maynard stated he will be using poplar for the cornice replacement and would like to know if it can be
stained or does it need to be painted. Paul Maynard stated that he purchased the property with the white paint
and vinyl windows. Paul Maynard would like to replace the wood overhang. Laura Renwick stated that paint
would provide extra protection and Paul Torp stated paint is more historical than stain. Ideally, it is
recommended to paint the wood. Paul Torp questioned paint colors and Laura Renwick stated the Board does
not regulate paint colors. Paul Maynard would like to bring back original look by removing metal and reframe
the gable on the end, and paint all to match. The paint on the limestone cannot be removed. Paul Maynard
presented plans to build a pergola in the rear of the property abutting the garage, with a privacy fence around

the rear yard. The privacy fence will be 6 ft. and made of wood. Lisa Green ask if the pergola would be seen
from the alley. Laura Renwick stated you might see the top and ask Paul Maynard about the height. Paul
Maynard said it would be under the roofline of the garage. Paul Torp mentioned it would need to comply with
the zoning standards within the City. Lisa Green stated pergola is not an issue and made a motion to approve the
certificate of appropriateness for replacement of the cornice with wood and it would need to be painted, Jourdan
Ford seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Election of Officers
Lisa Green made a motion to elect Ed Siewert as President, seconded by Johnna Anderson and motion passed
unanimously.
Lisa Green made a motion to elect Johnna Anderson as Vice President, seconded by Jourdon Ford and motion
passed unanimously.
Laura stated there is a webinar on February 29 on incorporating art into historic districts.
Lisa Green made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Jourdon Ford.
