HomeMy WebLinkAbout1990-R-19 RESOLUTION NO. 90-R- RESOLUTION COMMEMORATING PRIOR APPROVAL OF STATEMENT OF BENEFITS WHEREAS, the Common Council has previously approved the Statement of Benefits filed by Bowles Mattress Co., Inc. as evidenced by the minutes of the Common Council meeting of April 21, 1990, a copy of which is attached hereto; and, WHEREAS, the Common CounCil has made the necessary findings under Indiana Code 6-1.1-12.1-4.5 in approving this Statement of Benefits at the prior meeting; and, It has now been determined that it is the better practice to approve said Statement of Benefits by numbered resolution of the Common Council in order to fully memorialize the Council's intent and approval. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville that it hereby affirms its intent in ~&~3ranting the. OREM ~ PAGE 2 APRIL 21, 1990 Mayor Orem introduced and explained Resolution No. 90-R-13, A Confirming Resolution Designating Certain Development Areas As "Economic Development'Target Areas" Within The City Of Jeffersonville, Indiana. Councilperson Grooms made the motion to pass Resolution No. 90-R-13, seconded b~ Council President Wais and carried unanimously. Discussion was initiated by Councilperson Williams regarding the question of monitoring agencies for tax abatements. There is no recourse to withdraw an abatement if not followed through with the number of employees stated on the application. Mayor Orem introduced a Statement of Benefits for Bowles Mattess Company, Inc., 1220 Watt Street, for new equipment and a Statement of Benefits for Opal Bowles for a building addition. Mr. Bowles was in attendance and answered questions. Councilperson Perkins made the motion to approve both statements as presented, seconded bF CounoilpersOn Carter and carried unanimously. Counoilperson Perkins introduced Ordinance No. 90-OR-19, An Ordinance Transferring Certain Funds Within Same Department. Councilperson Perkins made the motion to suspend the rules for Ordinance No. 90-OR-19, seconded unanimously. Councilperson No. 90-OR-19 on all three with discussion following. by Councilperson Williams and carried Perkins made the motion to pass Ordinance 'readings, seconded by Councilperson Harrod The procedures for sidewalk renovations were reviewed, and the request kor the Partial funding of the convention center feasibility study was discussed. Councilperson Grooms stated this is one of the most exciting projects he has worked on. COuncilperson Perkins outlined his reasons for being supportive. Counci!person Williams questioned the justification of .the large expenditures for the sewer rate study and ~he Court Avenue exte~sion study. It was explained the rate study is required by law to accompany the gr~nt application, placement of traffic and the Court Avenue study is required for signal's. The cost figures are "not to e~ceed" figures. Discussion was also. held as to the possibility of the convention study saying no, and what would happen with the land and DeMars. This study should be complete in eight weeks.
