HomeMy WebLinkAboutPMC January 9, 2024 JEFFERSONVILLE POLICE MERIT COMMISSION SS REGULAR MEETING JANUARY 9, 2024 The Jeffersonville Police Merit Commission was held on January 9, 2024, at 5:00 P.M. in the City Council Chambers, First Floor, 500 Quartermaster Court,Jeffersonville, Indiana. President Jeremy Snelling called the meeting to order with the following in attendance: President Jeremy Snelling, Vice- President Bonnie Deppert, Buddy Parker, Robert Campbell, Attorney Robert Bottorff and Patty Rush. Absent was Scott Aldridge. Invocation was given by Robert Campbell. ELECTION OF OFFICERS: Mr. Campbell made a nomination for Jeremy Snelling as President and seconded by Mr. Parker. Nomination closed with no other names submitted. Approved 4-0 President Snelling made a nomination for Robert Campbell as Vice-President and seconded by Mr. Parker. Nomination closed with no other names submitted. Approved 4-0 Mr. Campbell made a nomination for Scott Aldridge as Secretary and seconded by Ms. Deppert. Nomination closed with no other names submitted. Approved 4-0 TIME AND DATES OF MEETINGS: Mr. Campbell made a motion to continue our meetings on the seconded Tuesday of each month and at 5:00 P.M. Motion was seconded by Mr. Parker. Approved 4-0 APPROVAL OF MINUTES: President Snelling presented the Minutes from December 12, 2023 meeting, asking if there were any corrections, comments, or additions. Mr. Parker made a motion to approve the Minutes as presented and seconded by Mr. Campbell. Approved 4-0 OLD BUSINESS: None NEW BUSINESS: Assistant Chief McVoy addressed the Commission for an Agency Status. Major Joe Hubbard advised he will be retiring and his last day will be January 16, 2024 and official date will be mid-February. Detective Darren Vaughn is retiring as of December 30, 2023 but his last day for payroll will be March 23, 2024. He advised they have hired an experienced officer who made a lateral transfer and 3 new officers which are in training at this time and doing well. He announced that Captain Todd Hollis was appointed to position held by Major Hubbard and will now be Major Todd Hollis. Promotions to Sgt. are Alyssa Wright and Josh Leveronne. Lt. Drew Lyndon has been appointed to Staff Council by Chief Kavanaugh. Drew Lyndon addressed the Commission regarding current rules which includes Promotion Examinations and Contracts. He reviewed the Proposed Amendment area of A-1 regarding the promotional examination eligibility and under IC 36-8-3-3.5-13 Promotions; rules; requisites; eligibility list under Sec. 13-b. They are requesting some changes and Attorney Bottorff will review the changes and return to Commission for their decisions at our next meeting. Mr. Parker made a motion for Attorney Bottorff complete the changes and amend for the Commission to review and seconded by Ms. Deppert. Approved 4-0 Major Isaac Parker addressed the Commission regarding Promotional Testing Availability, Officer Intent and Promotional Testing Material Request. They are requesting the officers that are going for rank to include a letter of intent and resume so the Commission will have some background of that particular officer. It has been recommended that promotional exams will be held on February 25' and extent until April 29th. Major Parker requested interviews for Corporal the week of May 19 thru 25 and remaining interviews be week of June 2 thru 8'for Sergeant, Lieutenant and Captain. Mr. Parker made a motion to approve the request of letter intent and resume to be included with application for rank and seconded by Ms. Deppert. Approved 4-0 Anthony Steward, FOP President addressed the Commission to retain the positions for the Commission as it stands at this time. CLAIMS: Mr. Campbell presented a Claim Invoice #2024-01 in the amount of$100.00. Mr. Parker made a motion to approve the Invoice presented and seconded by Ms. Deppert. Approved 3-0 Mr. Campbell presented a Claim to Public Safety not to exceed $1,500 for Matthew Faith. Mr. Parker made a motion to approve the Invoice as presented and seconded by Ms. Deppert. Approved 3-0 ADJOURNMENT: Mr. Parker made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 5:58 P.M. and seconded by Ms. Deppert.
