JEFFERSONVILLE POLICE MERIT COMMISSION

REGULAR MEETING
OCTOBER 10, 2023
The Jeffersonville Police Merit Commission meeting was called to order on October 10, 2023, at
5:00 P.M. in the City Council Chambers, First Floor, 500 Quartermaster Court, Jeffersonville, Indiana.
President Jeremy Snelling called the meeting to order.
INVOCATION:
Invocation was given by Robert Campbell.
ROLL CALL:
The following Commission Members are present and in attendance:
President Jeremy Snelling, Treasurer, Scott Aldridge, Member, Buddy Parker, Member, Robert
Campbell.
The following Commission Member(s) are absent:
Vice-President, Bonnie Deppert.
Also absent from tonight's meeting:
Attorney, Robert G. Bottorff II (available by telephone); and Minute-keeper/Court-reporter, Patty
Rush.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Approval of the minutes from the September 12, 2023 Regular Meeting of the Police Merit
Commission are being finalized and will be distributed, reviewed and approved at the next Regular
Meeting of the Police Merit Commission (November 14, 2023).Tabled.
OLD BUSINESS:
None.
NEW BUSINESS:
Department Updates:
Assistant Chief Michael Scott McVoy,gives Commission an update and leads discussion regarding
the following:
Experienced Officer Hiring List Creation Process.
There were a total of three applicants for this process. Two of those applicants do not
qualify and meet the criteria set forth in the application process and the Commission
Rules (i.e., these two applicants do not have any experience as police officers and have
not attended the police Academy).As such,these two candidates will be transferred over
to the Inexperienced Officer Hiring Process.
One Candidate does meet the required criteria and will continue through the Experienced
Officer Hiring List Creation Process,background and testing phases expected to begin next
week.
Police Officer/Members of the Department Receives Award.
One of our valued Police Officers/Members of our Department receives the"40 Under 40
Award" from the International Association of Chiefs of Police for outstanding case-work
involving crimes against children, Detective Herring.
Training Status of the Last Three New Hires from Experienced Officer Hiring List
The three officers most recently hired by the Department from the Experienced Officer
Hiring List are currently involved in the Field Training Program Phase of their training and
are doing well.
Training Status of the Last Three New Hires from Inexperienced Officer Hiring List
The three officers most recently hired by the Department from the Inexperienced Officer
Hiring List are still currently attending the Police Academy and are doing well.Anticipated
that these three officers should be ready to begin service and field training with the
Department around (or before) April of 2024.
Upcoming City of Jeffersonville Police Department Awards Ceremony
Award Ceremony is November 17, 2023. The Merit Commission will be receiving
invitation.
Lt. Davis returned to Regular Duty after Administrative Leave due to officer involved
shooting. Chief Ken Kavenaugh
CLAIMS:
President Snelling presented Invoice # 204020 from Indiana Media Group, in the
amount of $1090.08. Mr. Parker made a motion to approve the Invoice in the amount of$1090.08 and
seconded by Mr. Campbell. Voted 4-0
ADJOURNMENT:
Mr. Campbell made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 5:20 P.M. and seconded by Mr. Aldridge.
Our next meeting will be held on November 14, 2023 at 5:00 P.M.
