HomeMy WebLinkAboutHistoric Preservation Commission August 14, 2023 MINUTES August 14, 2023 President Ed Siewert called to order the August 14,2023 Historic Preservation Commission meeting at 6:00 p.m.in the Building Commission Conference Room at City Hall,500 Quartermaster Court. Members present were,Johnna Anderson,Jourdan Ford,Lisa Green,Jason Schlatter and Evan Stoner. Member absent,Maggie Moore.Also,present Laura Renwick,Historic Preservation staff advisor and Administrative Assistant Mary Frey.Guest,Paul Torp. Agenda Johnna Anderson made a motion to approve the Monday August 14,2023 agenda as presented,seconded by Lisa Green and approved unanimously. Minutes Jason Schlatter made a motion to approve the Monday June 12,2023 minutes,seconded by Jourdan Ford and approved unanimously. Certificate of Appropriateness Rob Waiz appeared before the Board to request a Certificate of Appropriateness for the renovation of two porches with balconies at 228 W.Riverside Drive.Rob Waiz stated he is turning a four-plex structure back to its original use of a single-family structure. The west side will include a porch with a 12 x 24 second story balcony.An existing window on the second floor will be replaced with a door.The first story will have an existing doorway moved to the north and a new window installed.Laura asked for clarification on the lower door on the west side and replacing the window.Rob Waiz stated he is moving the existing door to the left and creating a shorter window. He will do his best to retain the original look. The front porch will be 8 x 13 with a second story balcony.A second story window will be converted into a door. The building materials will be decorative wood. Materials for both decks will be decorative wood,with new wood spindles.Evan Stoner questioned the height of the railings. Laura Renwick stated that when the structure was built aesthetics were more important than codes.Laura Renwick stated the raising the railing height could be done with cable or extra rail at the top or bottom if Rob wanted a higher railing.Rob Waiz stated that the railing would meet the current residential building code height. Rob presented a current spindle to show current spindles are beyond repair. Jason Schlatter made a motion to approve the Certificate of Appropriateness for the renovations as presented contingent that all materials be presented and approved thru Indiana Landmark Historic Preservation Representative Laura Renwick,seconded by Lisa Green and approved unanimously. Laura Renwick stated she approved the doors for the renovation at 417 Spring Street and the Grisamore House roof replacement. Laura Renwick stated the state and National Alliance of Preservation Commissions are offering two upcoming virtual training sessions,August 23,24th and September 13.
