HomeMy WebLinkAboutParks Authority June 26, 2023 Jeffersonville Parks Authority Monday,June 26, 2023 The Jeffersonville Parks Authority met in Session on Monday, June 23, 2023 in the Mayor's conference room on the third floor of City Hall. Members Present: Elizabeth (Lisa) Carter,Johnna Anderson, Ralph Scales, Carmen Croudep, Debbie Pait, Bill Burns and Evan Stoner (via Zoom). Members absent: Larry Jordan and Pam Clark. Parks Staff Present: Amber Powell,Amber Ridings,Olivia Mann,Sara Nord, Ricky Romans,Tim McCoy and Matt Siler. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Member Burns made a MOTION to approve the amended agenda for the June 23', 2023 Parks Authority Meeting,the motion was seconded by Member Pait. The motion passed on a vote of 6-0. (Member Croudep was not present for this vote) APPROVAL OF MINUTES Member Burns made a MOTION to approve the minutes from the May 22nd,2023 Parks Authority Meeting,the motion was seconded by Member Anderson. The motion passed on a vote of 6-0. (Member Croudep was not present for this vote) OLD BUSINESS-NONE NEW BUSINESS Paul Northam presented 2 quotes for the Ice Rink rental, asking for recommendations. Included were a one-year and three-year proposal,with savings over the longer commitment. Member Scales ask if there was a cost impact if the location needed to be changed. There would not be any impact for this. Then questions were raised about the overall money received during the'22'23 season, if there was a buy-out clause or what is the cost to purchase a rink? Paul and Amber Powell were going to research and reply back to these inquiries. Member Burns made a MOTION to table any recommendations, awaiting additional information,and the motion was seconded by Member Croudep. The motion passed on a vote of 7-0. Amber Powell presented the Jesse Lee contract for the opening act at Riverstage on July 28th. Member Burns made a MOTION to approve,and Member Anderson seconded the motion. The motion was passed on a vote of 7-0. All contracts are approved pending legal review. Manager's Report Amber Powell—Jeff Goes Country is scheduled for this weekend (July 15t). The Lil'Jon concert event was a huge success. C&H(the new production company)and The Alcove (new alcohol provider) both did a fantastic job as well. There are 3 new City Partners, Ramiro's,Cunningham Campers and Park DuValle. The previous Cruise-In was a great success; therefore,another one is planned for July 15t''. This event will include a school supply giveaway from Greater Clark County Schools. Olivia Mann—The 2023 Pool season is going well. The Jeffersonville Aquatic Center will be hosting 3 Swim meets this season, as well as the host of the Championship Swim Meet.The Aquatic Center will be closed to the public on Saturday,July 82h. Dippin' Dots sales are going great with concessions! Matt Siler—Monday through Friday the team has been very busy with set-up and tear-down for the 2023 Concert Series events. The Alcove has been a great crew to work with. Other tasks have included replacement of bollards, pouring concrete pads, adding and/or repairing picnic tables and benches. Trash pick-up remains steady as well. Sara Nord—This is the 5th week of summer camp, and the camp runs through July 21n. The Envision Center and the Fieldhouse have been consistently booked with weekend rentals this summer. Ricky Romans—The Men's softball league(1n session)ends tomorrow(June 27`h)and the 2nd session begins the last week in July. Football registration is being promoted with banners and through social media. There will be a planning meeting(July 9`h-10`h),followed by a Hoosier Hills regular league meeting. Practice will begin August 1n and games begin September 2"d and 3`d Woehrle is nearly finished with all the repairs; however, work is currently being completed by Otis Elevator and electricians,as the lighting has been on back order. Tim McCoy—This has been a record year for wind storms,squeezing the budget between tree removals and debris clean-up/dumping. Although the Greenspace team has completed as much of the work as possible,this has taken a toll on both Professional and Environmental services. Landscaping/mulching has been completed at Chapel Lake, Exit"0", Bob Hedge, and Warder Park. Pots have been filled with annuals at Allison Brook and the Aquatic Center,and mulched all beds. Work is currently being done at the Envision Center and Ken Ellis,replacing dead plants and around the parking lots. Then mulch will be applied. A meeting is planned with the Jeffersonville and Charlestown Track Coaches at Chapel Lake regarding the Cross Country course for the fall meets. Director's Report Paul Northam—Commended Amber Powell on the great job with the concerts so far, including Lil'Jon. This was a very successful event,with very positive comments on social media. The Council was thanked for their support and contribution to Lil'Jon as well. AROTR had record attendance and great weather this year, and planning has begun for next year. The Freedom Parade is scheduled for Tuesday,July 4th, starting at 10:00 am. Parks Department currently has an open position as the City Partnership Manager. There's quite a bit happening within the Parks Department. Bollards are being replaced, Riverstage clean-up and painting, stump removal and taking out dead trees(we've lost 6-10 trees within 5 mos.), and maintaining the ball fields for tournaments are all being worked. The parking lots at Wilcoxson and Poppy Park will be repaved. The Oglesby Project will begin in the fall, adding 16 pickleball courts,4 basketball court,and new playground. Paul has been ask to remove the support columns at the old walking bridge. He's met with a private restoration group and is awaiting more information and pricing.
