OMMISSION
New Business:
2023 Programming Update: The Greater Clark County Schools student art show represented 500
students from the county and 250 of them attended the Thursday reception. There was good
volunteer support and the event preparation was strong. Weaknesses included the sign-in
registration process, lack of media, and not enough space. Suggestions were made to spread out
attendance and use the space more efficiently. Abigail Richmer discussed the budget for
refreshments for an event and suggested providing a goody bag for the artists instead of
refreshments for both the children and parents. Susie Harrison suggested taking pictures and
interviewing artists at the art show, as well as creating a map of the event and providing goody
bags with the event's logo. She also suggested having a photo booth and providing certificates of
recognition to the student artists.
On the topic of the upcoming Abbey Road on the River event over Memorial weekend, Greg
Rush spoke about the different artworks that would be featured at the event, including the
PeaceTree interactive sculpture, the photo opt mural of the Abbey Road album cover, a
chalkboard mural, the photo opt cut-outs of the Beatles, and the latest addition; four portrait
paintings in the shape of strawberries. He also mentioned the possibility of having volunteers to
help with the event.
2023 Budget Status: This agenda item has been pushed to the June meeting due to other agenda
items taking higher priority and the limit on meeting time.
2024 Programming Update: Heather Rapp presented the first draft of the 2024 program calendar
to the commissioners to provide insight into what programming the city has already committed
to.
Maintenance Subcommittee Update: Susan Harrison presented the progress that has been made
in cataloging the over 100 public art pieces within the city's parameters. She is going to create a
spreadsheet to track the maintenance of the art pieces. The idea is that as the public fills out the
survey the responses will be saved on the spreadsheet which will record the condition of each art
piece. She also discussed the possibility of offering incentives for people to survey the pieces.
Public Art Subcommittee Update: Rosy Callahan stated that a young author from 2022 has been
selected to be showcased for the 2023 Story Trail. The next step is to find the contact

information for the young author. Heather Rapp mentioned that she plans to reach out to Mary
Catherine Wall the Art Coordinator of Greater Clark County Schools to see if she can help.
Administrator Comments: Heather Rapp directed the commissioners to set up meetings with
their subcommittees to work on developing a budget and program for 2024.
In June, the commission plans to review the progress of development on 2024 programming. The
agenda items that were not addressed tonight will be added to the June meeting agenda for
review and discussion. The next meeting is on June 5th.
General Public Comments: Miguel Williams discussed the miscommunication between F5
Enterprises, the Art Commission, and the Parks Department regarding the use of the NoCo Arts
and Cultural District specifically the Art Center space for the upcoming Juneteenth event. Andy
Crouch responded that he would meet with the Special Events Committee tomorrow to figure out
a comparable solution to the issue of not having a gallery space for the Juneteenth event.
Sarah Young made a motion to adjourn; Abigail Richmer seconded the motion. The meeting was
adjourned at 7:26 p.m.
