HomeMy WebLinkAboutJPAC May 8, 2023 ó JEFFERSONVILLE PUBLIC AR COMMISSION Jeffersonville Public Art Commission May 8, 2023 Heather Rapp called the meeting to order at 5:37 p.m. Attendees: John Edwards Heather Rapp Rosy Callahan Susie Harrison Sarah Young Denise Freville Kofi Darku(via Zoom) Abigail Richmer Teah Hampton-Williams Absent Attendees: Dustin White Guests: Andy Crouch, City Engineer Greg Rush, Local Artist, AROTR Representative Miguel Williams, Citizen, F5 Enterprises Representative Approve Minutes from JPAC Meeting —John Edwards made a motion to approve the minutes from March 13, 2023, and Rosy Callahan seconded the motion, motion passed with 7 for 0 against 0 abstained. April meeting minutes were not available for review at the time. In the June meeting, April and May minutes will be reviewed and approved. Old Business: There was no old business to review or discuss. /GAT Y Off. _--1;ii ii;4';\ �--4 W KS:} JEFFERSONVILLE PUBLIC ARTC- lli OMMISSION New Business: 2023 Programming Update: The Greater Clark County Schools student art show represented 500 students from the county and 250 of them attended the Thursday reception. There was good volunteer support and the event preparation was strong. Weaknesses included the sign-in registration process, lack of media, and not enough space. Suggestions were made to spread out attendance and use the space more efficiently. Abigail Richmer discussed the budget for refreshments for an event and suggested providing a goody bag for the artists instead of refreshments for both the children and parents. Susie Harrison suggested taking pictures and interviewing artists at the art show, as well as creating a map of the event and providing goody bags with the event's logo. She also suggested having a photo booth and providing certificates of recognition to the student artists. On the topic of the upcoming Abbey Road on the River event over Memorial weekend, Greg Rush spoke about the different artworks that would be featured at the event, including the PeaceTree interactive sculpture, the photo opt mural of the Abbey Road album cover, a chalkboard mural, the photo opt cut-outs of the Beatles, and the latest addition; four portrait paintings in the shape of strawberries. He also mentioned the possibility of having volunteers to help with the event. 2023 Budget Status: This agenda item has been pushed to the June meeting due to other agenda items taking higher priority and the limit on meeting time. 2024 Programming Update: Heather Rapp presented the first draft of the 2024 program calendar to the commissioners to provide insight into what programming the city has already committed to. Maintenance Subcommittee Update: Susan Harrison presented the progress that has been made in cataloging the over 100 public art pieces within the city's parameters. She is going to create a spreadsheet to track the maintenance of the art pieces. The idea is that as the public fills out the survey the responses will be saved on the spreadsheet which will record the condition of each art piece. She also discussed the possibility of offering incentives for people to survey the pieces. Public Art Subcommittee Update: Rosy Callahan stated that a young author from 2022 has been selected to be showcased for the 2023 Story Trail. Heather Rapp mentioned that she plans to reach out to Mary Catherine Wall the Art Coordinator of Greater Clark County Schools to see if she can help. Administrator Comments: Heather Rapp directed the commissioners to set up meetings with their subcommittees to work on developing a budget and program for 2024. In June,the commission plans to review the progress of development on 2024 programming. The agenda items that were not addressed tonight will be added to the June meeting agenda for review and discussion. The next meeting is on June 5th. General Public Comments: Miguel Williams discussed the miscommunication between F5 Enterprises,the Art Commission, and the Parks Department regarding the use of the NoCo Arts and Cultural District specifically the Art Center space for the upcoming Juneteenth event. Andy Crouch responded that he would meet with the Special Events Committee tomorrow to figure out a comparable solution to the issue of not having a gallery space for the Juneteenth event.
