JEFFERSONVILLE POLICE MERIT COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING
MAY 9, 2023
The Jeffersonville Police Merit Commission meeting was called to order on May 9, 2023, at 5:00
P.M. in the City Council Chambers, First Floor, 500 Quartermaster Court,Jeffersonville, Indiana.
President Jeremy Snelling called the meeting to order with the following in attendance: President
Jeremy Snelling,Vice-President Bonnie Deppert,Scott Aldridge, Buddy Parker,Attorney Robert Bottorff,
and Patty Rush. Absent was Robert Campbell.
Invocation was given by President Snelling.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
President Snelling presented the Minutes from April 11, 2023, asking if there were any
questions, corrections, or additions. Mr. Parker made a motion to approve the Minutes as presented and
seconded by Ms. Deppert. Voted 4-0
OLD BUSINESS: None
NEW BUSINESS:
Assistant Chief McVoy addressed the Commission regarding the update on Inexperienced List.
We had 26 applications, 15 showed up for physical test, 6 failed and 9 remaining for written test. On
May 16th at 4:00 P.M.will be oral interviews with the Commission with remaining applicants at the
Jeffersonville Police Department.
Assistant Chief McVoy addressed the Commission regarding update on Probationary Officers.
The administration and FOP agreed to open contact for Inexperienced Officers. It is now$49,000, and
you know it is hard to recruit for this amount. It was agreed that Probational Officers will be paid
$55,000. They will address this contract to the City Council Meeting.
He advised that now as the state law as of July, an officer can live anywhere they prefer even in
another state.The officer must have adequate communication and reliable transportation. Attorney
Bottorff presented a copy of AMENDMENT NO. 2023-01 for AN AMENDMENT TO THE CITY OF
JEFFERSONVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT MERIT COMMISSION RULES AND PROCEDURES,AMENDING RULE
AND PROCEDURES 1 "APPLICANT QUALIFICATIONS"AND RULE 2 "SELECTION OF APPLICANTS". Mr.
Aldridge made a motion to approve the changes to the Rules and Procedures and seconded by Mr.
Parker. Voted 4-0
Mr. Aldridge advised that a retiree's breakfast will be held on May 15, 2023, from 9:00 A.M.till
11:00 A.M. held by the Jeffersonville Police Department.
PUBLIC COMMENTS: None
CLAIMS:
President Snelling presented Invoice#2023-05 in the amount of$100 for Patty Rush. Mr. Parker
made a motion to approve this Invoice as presented and seconded by Mr. Aldridge. Voted 4-0
President Snelling presented Invoice#2518941 in the amount of$903.96 for advertisement for
inexperienced officers new hires. Mr.Aldridge made a motion to approve the Invoice as presented and
seconded by Ms. Deppert. Voted 4-0
ADJOURNMENT:
Mr. Parker made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:04 P.M. and seconded by Mr. Aldridge.
Our next meeting will be held on June 13, 2023 at 5:00 P.M.
