HomeMy WebLinkAboutParks Authority April 24, 2023 Jeffersonville Parks Authority Monday, April 24, 2023 The Jeffersonville Parks Authority met in Session on Monday, April 24, 2023 in the Mayor's conference room on the third floor of City Hall. Members Present: Elizabeth (Lisa) Carter, Evan Stoner, Bill Burns, Johnna Anderson, Larry Jordan, Carmen Croudep,and Debbie Pait. Members absent: Pam Clark and Ralph Scales. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Member Burns made a MOTION to approve the agenda for the April 24th, 2023 Parks Authority Meeting, the motion was seconded by Member Anderson. The motion passed on a vote of 7-0. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Member Stoner made a MOTION to approve the minutes from the March 27th, 2023 Parks Authority Meeting, the motion was seconded by Member Anderson. The motion passed on a vote of 7-0. OLD BUSINESS—NONE NEW BUSINESS Amber Powell presented several opening band contracts for the 2023 Summer Concert Series. Several of these bands are new this year, adding more variety for the patrons. Member Stoner made a MOTION to approve the contracts, the motion was seconded by Member Burns. The motion was passed on a vote of 7-0. All contracts are approved pending legal review. DIRECTOR'S REPORT Amber Powell—The Riverstage schedule was recently published, and the new production company, C& H, is ready to begin equipment installation. The buzz is HUGE for Lil' Jon coming on Sunday,June 18th, and a very large crowd is anticipated. The Jeff Goes Country Artist announcement of Carly Pierce was well-received, and iHeart Radio actually had her on the phone for a brief interview. This event is scheduled for July 1st Matt Siler—The team had been diligently working on river clean-up for Thunder. There's also work happening at the Aquatic Center, preparing for the opening Memorial weekend. The Riverstage will be brought down river to dock in early May. Sara Nord —Car tags are being produced and supply inventory for activities is being finalized for Summer Camp. Amber Ridings—Summer camp attendance has been increased this year, accepting 160 kids between the age groups of 5-7 and 8-12 yr. olds. Staffing has been increased to accommodate more kids, and there are still over 20 on the waiting list. Paul Northam—Ken Ellis Center is utilized during the weeks of Summer Camp; therefore, the seniors will be using the CASI building during this time. The Parks Department is exploring additional options for 2024. A consideration might be the Nachand Fieldhouse; however, the convenience of having all the kids at close locations serves well for the parents. Maintenance has been working to prepare the Riverstage area, cleaning up the landscape &trash for Thunder as well. The Street Department also assisted on Sunday for clean-up. Painting has been happening at the Aquatic Center in preparation for the Memorial weekend opening, and new pumps have been installed. The concession area has added an additional window to improve long lines. There is a neighborhood meeting scheduled for Tuesday, April 25th at Lottie Oglesby Park. This begins at 6:30 p.m., and will give the public an opportunity to talk about items of interest (in addition to pickleball) such as new walking trails, a playground and parking. Paul announced that Dave Simpson, City Partnership Manager, has resigned. His responsibilities will be absorbed for the remainder of this year by Amber Powell, Amber Ridings and Paul. Dave has completed all contracts for the 2023 summer events; however, Steamboat Nights are still outstanding. REPORTS AND COMMENTS Parks Authority Attorney Report- NONE Public Comments- NONE Parks Authority Member Comments- Evan Stoner wanted to say "thank you" to the City Council for their contribution with Lil'Jon.
