HomeMy WebLinkAboutHistoric Preservation Commission March 13, 2023 Historic Preservation Commission MINUTES March 13, 2023 President Ed Siewert called to order the March 13,2023 Historic Preservation Commission meeting at 6:00 p.m. in the Building Commission Conference Room at City Hall,500 Quartermaster Court. Members present were Johnna Anderson,Jourdan Ford,Lisa Green, Maggie Moore,Jason Schlatter and Evan Stoner.Also,present Laura Renwick,Historic Preservation staff advisor and Administrative Assistant Mary Frey. Agenda Lisa Green made a motion to approve the Monday March 13,2023 agenda as presented, seconded by Johnna Anderson and approved unanimously. Minutes Evan Stoner made a motion to approve the Monday February 13, 2023 minutes, seconded by Jason Schlatter and approved unanimously. Certificate of Appropriateness Hannah Uhl representing L.O.S. Vibes requested a certificate of appropriateness for a window sign and a projection sign. Laura Renwick questioned if there was any lighting planned for the sign or if any other signage will be added to the right window of the entry. Hannah Uhl stated not at this time. Lisa Green stated that any more signage would need to come back for approval. Evan Stoner made a motion to approve the signage as presented, seconded by Lisa Green and approved unanimously. Fast Sign requested a certificate of appropriateness for a sign located at 253 Spring Street for a Kabuki Hibachi&Ramen Restaurant.No representative attended. Laura Renwick stated that this sign would have been approved at staff level if she had been in town. Lisa Green made a motion to approve the sign as presented, seconded by Jason Schlatter and approved unanimously. Ed Siewert ask if there are any suggestions for possible historic markers for The City of Jeffersonville. Evan Stoner is researching George Denning(Dinning),a freed slave who moved to Jeffersonville after A Kentucky Governor pardoned him when he was found guilty of stealing livestock,which he was falsely accused. Evan is hoping to find an area in Claysburg to place a plaque in honor of George Denning. Evan Stoner is trying to contact living relative(s)for more information. Laura Renwick and Evan Stoner will be checking with historian Jeanne Burke for more information. Ed Siewert would like to see more notation of the Jeffersonville historic area, with a possible plaque mapping the historical districts located in Jeffersonville. The information could possibly be placed around the walking bridge or downtown area. Laura Renwick suggested possible national registration nominations and possible tax incentives could help.We should probably develop a plan and possibly target two districts a year. Laura shared an example of a Corydon individual marker,which are metal signs and posted on buildings. Ed Siewert stated possible sponsorship from the UEZ Board or we may hold a fundraiser for projects. Jason Schlatter mentioned possible Falls Landing Tif district or Redevelopment district could help. 1 Historic Preservation Commission MINUTES March 13, 2023 Laura Renwick stated Mr. Lowery with Lifespring contacted her and stated they are replacing the windows using the one over one panes and the color will be grey. Laura Renwick handed out information on training from the Nationals Alliance of Preservation Commissions. With no further business, Lisa Green made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Jourdan Ford.
