AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATING CERTAIN SPECIFIC GEOGRAPHIC
TERRITORIES AS "ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT TARGET AREAS"
WITHIN THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
WHEREAS, it has been requested that certain areas within
the City of Jeffersonville be designated as economic
development target areas pursuant to I.C. 6-1.1-12.1-7; and,
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonvilte,
Indiana, recognizes the need to stimulate growth and to
maintain a sound economy within the City of Jeffersonville;
and,
WHEREAS, certain areas of the City have become undesirable
or impossible for normal development and occupancy because of a
lack of development, cessation of growth, deterioration of
improvements or character of occupancy, age, obsolescence,
substandard buildings or other factors which have impaired
values or prevented a normal development of property or use of
property; and,
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville
further recognizes that incentives to locate development in
these underutilized areas would be in the City's best interest;
and,
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville
further recognizes that it would be beneficial to designate
certain areas within the City that presently qualify, as
economic development target areas, for the ultimate purpose of
granting a deduction against the assessed value of property as
such an economic incentive; and,
WHEREAS, the Jeffersonville Economic Development
Conunission has recommended to the Common Council of the City of
Jeffersonville, Indiana, that certain areas of the City be
designated as an Economic Development Target Area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the
City of Jeffersonville, Indiana, that:
1. The following area is hereby declared and designated
as an Economic Development Target Area:
The area in the City of Jeffersonville, Indiana,
bounded by Court Avenue on the north, the Clark
Memorial Bridge/U.S. Highway 31 on the west, the
City of Jeffersonville/State of Indiana boundary
line on the south, and Interstate 65 on the
east. This area is more specifically described
in the legal description and plat which are
attached hereto as Exhibits "A" and "B",
respectively, and are incorporated herein.
The Common Council further specifically finds that
this area has become undesirable or impossible for
normal development and occupancy because of a lack of
development,
improvements
obsolescence,
factors that
cessation of growth, deterioration of
and character of occupancy, age,
substandard buildings, and other
have impaired values and prevented a
normal development of property and the use of
property in this area.
This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon its
timely passage, promulgation and approval by the Mayor.
