AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATINGiCERTAIN SPECIFIC GEOGRAPHIC
TERRITORIES AS "EcoNoMIC DEVELOPMENT TARGET AREAS"
WITHIN THE CITY OF ~EFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
Indiana,
maintain
and,
WHEREAS, it has been requested that certain areas within
the City of Jeffersonville be designated as economic
development target areas pursuant to I.C. 6-1.1-12.1-7; and,
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville,
recognizes the need to stimulate growth and to
a sound economy within the City of Jeffersonville;
WHEREAS, certain areas of the City have become undesirable
or impossible for normal development and occupancy because of a
lack of development, cessation of growth, deterioration of
improvements or character of occupancy, age, obsolescence,
substandard buildings or other factors which have impaired
values or prevented a normal development of property or use of
property; and,
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville
further recognizes that incentives to locate development in
in the City's best interest;
WHEREAS, the Common council of the City of Jeffersonville
further recognizes that it would be beneficial to designate
certain areas within the City that presently qualify, as
economic development target areas, for the ultimate purpose of
granting a deduction against the assessed value of property as
such an economic incentive; and,
WHEREAS, the Jeffersonville Economic Development
Commission has recommended to the Common Council of the City of
Jeffersonville, Indiana, that certain areas of the City be
designated as an Economic Development Target Area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the
City of Jeffersonville, Indiana, that:
1. The following area is hereby declared and designated
as an Economic Development Target Area:
these underutilized areas would be
and,
The area in the City of Jeffersonville,
Indiana, commencing at the intersection of
Tenth and Wall Streets, thence west to the
intersection of Tenth Street and Indiana
Avenue, thence south to Ninth Street,
thence east to Ohio Avenue, thence south to
Eighth Street, thence east to Michigan
Avenue, thence south to Court Avenue,
thence west to the Exit "0" ramp of
Interstate 65, thence south along said exit
ramp to a point where the radius of the
west side of Ohio Avenue cul de sac begins,
thence to the point on the east side of
Ohio Avenue where the cul de sac radius
begins, thence east down the alley between
Court Avenue and Maple Street to a point
approximately one-third block from Pearl
Street, thence south to Maple Street,
thence east to Pearl Street, thence south
to Riverside Drive, thence east to Wall
Street, thence north to an alley
approximately one-third block south of
Court Avenue, thence east along said alley
to Meigs Avenue, thence north to Court
Avenue, thence west to Walnut Street,
thence north to Eighth Street, thence west
to Wall Street, thence north to the point
of beginning at the intersection of Tenth
Street and Wall Street. This area is more
specifically shown on the map attached
hereto as Exhibit "A".
2. The Common Council further specifically finds that
this area has become undesirable or impossible for
normal development and occupancy because of a lack of
development, cessation of growth, deterioration of
improvements and character of occupancy, age,
obsolescence, substandard buildings, and other
factors that have impaired values and prevented a
normal development of property and the use of
property in this area.
This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon its
timely passage, promulgation and approval by the Mayor.
