Regular Meeting Minutes
The Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville, Indiana met for the Regular Meeting via teleconferencing
on June 7, 2021.
Council President Owen along with City Clerk Gill called the virtual meeting to order at 7:02 p.m.
ROLL CALL:
The roll call was conducted by City Clerk Lisa Gill and those present were Council President Owen;those
members teleconferencing(Covid-19)were Councilperson White, Councilperson Burns, Councilperson
Paris, Council Vice President Maples, Councilperson Webb, Councilperson Hawkins,and Councilperson
Ellis. Councilperson Croft was absent during the roll call. The meeting was streamed to the public via Social
Media.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Councilperson Burns made a motion to approve the Minutes of May 17, 2021 of the Regular Meeting,
seconded by Councilperson Hawkins; roll call vote:

REPORT OF THE CLERK:
Nothing at this time.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
1. Heather Metcalf 2021-OR-25 Ordinance of Additional Appropriation Chief Grant stated that at the
beginning of the year they cut 10%Doff of their budget and they are running low in the line items that they
cut. This will get them through the end of the year. Councilperson Webb stated Chief Grant cut his budget
when they needed it and he supports this request. Chief Grant went over what the request would cover
(supplies and maintenance lines). *Note Councilperson Croft joined via teleconference at 7:09 pm

NEW BUSINESS
1. Amy Aversole 2021-OR-26 Request Approval of Petition/Ordinance Granting Petition to Vacate a
Portion of a Certain Platted Easement on Cherokee Drive in the City of Jeffersonville Ms.Aversole stated
this is on behalf of Jesse Green to vacate a 10-foot section of a platted drainage and utility easement at lot
72 of Cherokee Terrace Subdivision which is 222 Cherokee Dr. He is wanting to build a garage there. There

was no opposition from adjoining properties. Mr.Crouch has reviewed this and it has went before the
Board of Public Works on May 26, 2021. Council President Owen opened Public Hearing at 7:15 pm. Clerk
Gill stated no comments were submitted to the Clerk's Office and there was nobody present at City Hall to
speak on the matter. Councilperson White asked if everyone was on board during the Board of Public
Works meeting on this matter. Clerk Gill stated she was at that meeting and there was no opposition.

2. Les Merkley 2021-OR-27 Request Approval of Petition/Ordinance Granting Petition to Vacate a Ten
(10) Foot Alley and a Sixty(60) Foot Right A Way in the City of Jeffersonville—Council President Owen
stated this is around the Gateway Property. Mr.Wilder stated the Administration is requesting that it is
approved on all three readings today so that it does not delay the development. Councilperson Ellis asked
how long the Administration has known that they would have to do this. He is opposed to doing things on
three readings unless it is an emergency. Mr.Wilder stated it was brought to the attention of the
Administration since the last Council Meeting.
Councilperson Burns made the motion to suspend the rules in anticipation of the ordinance passing on all
three readings,seconded by Councilperson Hawkins; roll call vote:

3. Les Merkley 2021-R-12 Acceptance of Plan Commission Order Approving Amended Declaratory
Resolution—Council President Owen stated this was on the agenda when it was sent out on Friday.
Councilperson Burns stated this passed at Plan Commission he believed unanimously.

Chief Grant—Chief Grant stated he had nothing to add and thanked the Council again and for all of their
help.
COUNCIL COMMENTS:
• Councilperson White—No comment
• Councilperson Burns—Councilperson Burns gave a shout out to the firefighters at the Jeffersonville
Fire Department. They were collecting for the Crusade for Children and he appreciates their time
and support for that cause.
• Councilperson Paris—No comment -
• Council Vice President Maples—No comment
• Councilperson Croft—Councilperson Croft asked regarding a timeline for the project on 8th Street
and Perrin. He is getting a lot of phone calls on that. Councilperson Ellis stated there is not an
estimated completion date due to some complications but there should be an update at the next
Sewer Board meeting.
• Councilperson Webb—Councilperson Webb stated he saw the JFD out there working hard
collecting for the Crusade for Children. Also, he's not sure if anyone made it down on Friday night -
but the concert went well and the crowds did good down there.
• Councilperson Hawkins—Councilperson Hawkins stated they had out of town guests who came in
and they were blown away by Jeffersonville in general and the concert just capped it off.Second
congratulations to the Class of 2021. They may have had the most challenging school year since
he's been alive.
• Councilperson Ellis—Councilperson Ellis stated he received a scam email this past week addressed
to him but it seemed like it used the Mayor's name and he would like to remind the Council to be
careful and he reported it to Mr.Merkley.
