THE JEFFERSONVILLE COMMON COUNCIL
STATE OF INDIANA
A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF
TOURISM CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT FUND GRANT (TCDF)
FOR VINTAGE FIRE MUSEUM AND SAFETY EDUCATION CENTER
WHEREAS, it is the goal of the Common Council for the City of Jeffersonville,
Indiana to support worthwhile projects that promote the City, the people, the culture and
history of Jeffersonville, Sothern Indiana, and Greater Louisville; and
WHEREAS, SoIN Tourism awarded the Vintage Fire Museum and Safety
Education Center, Inc. a Tourism Capital Development Fund (TCDF) grant of $125,000
for the project to promote safety education and honoring firefighters; and
WHEREAS, this project includes the purchase and restoration of a former Bales
building and lot at 706 Spring Street in Jeffersonville, Indiana; and
WHEREAS, this building and lot needed to be upgraded to fit the development of
the NoCo (north of Court) area of downtown Jeffersonville; and
WHEREAS, the Vintage Fire Museum has purchased this property and major
steps have been taken for the restoration; and
WHEREAS, this property would be used to continue the successful and
nationally-known museum of vintage firefighting equipment along with a state-of-the-art
fire safety education center and an inspiration area with a memorial honoring this
region's firefighters who have sacrificed their lives in fighting fires as well as those who
gave up their lives in 9-11; and
WHEREAS, ;SoIN Tourism requires that this TCDF grant receive a supporting
resolution including' bonding authorization from a local municipality; and
WHEREAS, SoIN Tourism has requested receiving this supporting resolution this
winter; and
WHEREAS, support of this project has no bearing on the successful TCDF grant
that Jeffersonville is receiving for the "Depot project" on Michigan Avenue; and
WHEREAS, the support of this grant including the bonding authorization involves
no expense at all to the supporting municipality or its population; and
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Common Council for Jeffersonville,
Indiana hereby supports the TCDF grant for the 706 Spring Street project of the Vintage
Fire Museum and Safety Education Center, Inc. and offer to authorize the bonding, if
necessary.
This Resolution shall be in full force and effect after its, passage by the Council
and approval by the Mayor.
