HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999-OR-37OBDINANCE NO. 99-OR-~ 7 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING $~ 35.10 & 35A2 OF THE JEFFERSONVILLE MUNICIPAL CODE CONCERNING SICK LEAVE AND BEREAVEMENT LEAVE WHEREAS, ~35.10 of the Jeffersonville Municipal Code (the "Code") provides that city employees accrue five (5) working days of sick leave per ye, wand may accrue sick leave up to thirty d~ s after fi e years o employment; and WHEREAS, the City of Jeffersonville (the "City") recently entered into a contract with the Indiana Fraternal Order of Pol;ce Labor Council, Inc. (the "FOP Contract") which provides that police officers accrue ten (10) working days of sick leave per year and may accrue sick leave up tg,. fort3,' (40) working days after five years of employment; and WHEREAS, the FOP Contract also provides for more bereavement leave than is current.Iy prgvided in $35.12 of the Code; and WHEREAS, the Jeffersonville Common Council (the "Council") believes that all other City ' employees~should be allowed the same number of sick days and bereavement days is police officers;, and WHEREAS, historically each firefighter of the Jeffersonville Fire Depm-~ment has received. $50.00 for birthday pay; and WHEREAS, the Council believes that all other Cityemployees should also receive $50.00 for birthd,~v pay NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY ORDAINED that ~35.10 (A) & CB) of the Code is hereby mnended to read as follows: [35.10 (A.) An employee accrues ten (10)wot 'king days of sick leave during a calendar year, if th~ employee completes at least six (6) months of Clty employment byJuly 1 of the calendar year. From that period onward the employee :;&mes ten '(I0) working days of sick leave for each additional c,-tlen&u' 3'ear in which the employee is emp!oyed with the City. (B) An employee m~' accrue up to a balance of twenty (20) unused working days of sick leave during the first five (5) >,ears of CiD' emplo?ment. After five (5) 3'ears of City employment, an employee may accrue up to a balance of fort3,' (40) unused working days of sick leave. NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY FURTHER ORDAINED that ~35.12 of the Code is hereby amended to read ,as follows: ~35.12 If t~;r; isa death in an employee's immediate family, the City will approve leave, withe-pay as necessary for the at-tending the funeral and taking care of personal ma=ers related to the deatl~..wkh. the following limitations. For the death of: 1) Spouse, child or foster child, up to five (5) working days; 2) Mother, father, brother, sister or grandchild, up to three 0) working days; 3) S ouse's mother, father, brother or sister, up to three (3) working days; p · 4) Grandparent or spouse's grandparent, up to three 0) working days. Any other absence in connection with funerals of other relatives or friends may be excused without pay. at the discretion of the department head or may be charged ag~ainst vacation time. NOW THEREFORE, IT ~S HEREBY FURTHER ORDAINED that all other City employees receive $50.00 for birthday pay. ..
