HomeMy WebLinkAboutSTATEMENT REGARDING UEZ BOARD AND CHAIR Ronald G. Ellis
Jeffersonville City Council At Large
At the invitation of the Executive Director I attended a special
called meeting of the Jeffersonville Urban Enterprise Association
on May 29, 2019. There was nine members of the association
present plus their attorney and some people from the public.
The meeting was led by the vice chairman since the chairperson
of the association was not present. It was brought up that the
purpose of the meeting was to address the signing of a contract
on the sale of property located at 228 Spring street by the
chairperson. This contract signing was done without the
authorization of association members and against the advice of
the association attorney.
After some discussion there was a motion made to pass a
resolution to give the Executive Director authority to hire an
attorney to litigate the contract signing to protect the legal and
equitable rights of the JUEA. This resolution was passed
unanimously.
After more discussion concerning lack of opportunity to have
update of bylaws and election of officers, the discussion turned to
ways to replace the current chairperson. At this point a motion
was made to pass a resolution for a vote of no confidence in the
association chairperson to be sent to the appointing body (City
Council) in hope that they, the Council, could resolve what is seen
as a critical situation.
I am making the City Council aware of this situation in hope that
we can take appropriate action before more harm is done to the
JUEA.
Sincerely,
Ronald G. Ellis
