The definition for the Recreation/Open Space is proposed to be replaced with the following text which blends the definition for the removed Agriculture designation. Open Space, Recreation and Agriculture These areas are reserved for the provision of outdoor recreational amenities and/or the preservation of existing landscapes. Open space areas may consist of heavily wooded, swampy, or otherwise environmentally sensitive areas. They may also exist to preserve undeveloped floodplain and/or existing agricultural uses. These open spaces promote healthy recreation, provide an escape from urban landscapes and serve as a connection to our community's history. Open spaces may also provide natural services, such as drainage control and air quality improvements. As such, open spaces tend to increase property values within the city. Open space may be intended for public use, especially as parks with trails, playing fields, and other recreational spaces. Sometimes, however, they may consist of a privately owned facility that may or may not be publicly accessible. Additional uses that fall into this category include cemeteries, sport facilities, urban parks/plazas and event facilities. Page 1 of 7 ZO-17-03: Future Land Use Map Attachments 1.
