AN ORDINANCE REQUESTING A
REFERENDUM ON RIVERBOAT GAMBLING
WHEREAS, the legislature of the State of Indiana has recently enacted a law which
creates a Gaming Commission and which would permit Riverboat Gambling in Cities and
Counties contiguous to the Ohio River, including Jeffersonville; and
WHEREAS, the location of a Riverboat Gambling facility within the City of
Jeffersonville could produce additional revenues which could be used for the operation of
the City and Clark County; and
WHEREAS, a prerequisite to obtaining a licensed Riverboat gambling facility is
to conduct a local referendum vote indicating that the electorate is favor of Riverboat
Gambling within the County in accordance with I.C. 4-33-6;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of
Jeffersonville that pursuant to I.C. 4-33-6-18 and I.C. 4-33-6-19 the Clerk of the Circuit
Court of Clark County and the Clark County Election Board are requested make
preparations for and conduct a special election in November, 1993, or as soon as possible
thereafter, to submit the following question to the registered voters of Clark County:
"Shall licenses be issued to permit riverboat gambling in Clark County?"
