BEFORE THE JEFFERSONVILLE COMMON COUNCIL
ORDINANCE NO. 00-OR- ,q,(v
AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING TItE LEASING OF THE
CITY PROPERTY BENEATH THE KENNEDY BRIDGE DURING
THUNDER OVER LOUISVILLE
WHEREAS, the Conmaon Council of the City of Jeffersonville is the city legislative body
and is by Indiana law authorized to adopt ordinances and resolutions concerning the general public
welfare of the residents of the City of Jeffersonville;
WHEREAS, the Thunder Over Louisville event takes place among other places along
Riverside Drive in the City of Jeffersonville;
WHEREAS, during Thunder Over Louisville there have been occasion when the property
owned by the City of Jeffersonville beneath the Kennedy Bridge is leased for private or commercial
purposes in a manner that prevents the general public from using the property and viewing the
Thunder Over Louisville festivities;
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville desires to ensure that the
property owned by the City of Jeffersonville beneath the Kennedy Bridge remains free and open to
the general public during Thunder Over Louisville;
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville believes that during Thunder
Over Louisville the property owned by the City of Jeffersonville beneath the Kennedy Bridge should
remain free and open for the use and enjoyment of the general public~,,?posed to any private use;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED that the propert) '~ed by the City of
Jeffersonville beneath the Kennedy Bridge shall remain free and open to the general pub!!c to the
extent that the property shall not be leased for private use during Thunder Over Louisville unless the
lease is with the Kentucky Derby Festival for placement of sound and lighting equipment for
Thunder Over Louisville.
This Ordinance shall be in theJ~ll force and effect upon its adoption.
