AN AMENDED ORDINANCE REQUIRING JEFFERSONVILLE
CITY VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville recognizes that the City of
Jeffersonville owns, operates, and maintains a large fleet of motor vehicles.
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville desires that the City vehicles
be readily identifiable to the citizens of Jeffersonville and general public.
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville hereby defines the term motor
vehicle as follows:
(A)
"Motor vehicle" means a vehicle that is self-propelled with provision for transport of
an operator.
(B)
The term "motor vehicle" shall include mowing machines, earth moving equipment,
and other self-propelled instruments used in the maintenance and upkeep of land.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of
Jeffersonville, that all motor vehicles owned, leased, operated, and/or maintained by the City, shall
readily display markings in the form of decals, no larger than eight inches in diameter, identifying the
vehicle as being a Jeffersonville City vehicle.
IT IS FURTHER ORDAINED that this ordinance shall apply to all vehicles as mentioned
above, excepting there from unmarked police vehicles intended to be used by the Jeffersonville City
Police Department.
IT IS FURTHER ORDAINED that this ordinance shall only be enforced against animal
shelter vehicles to the extent that they shall be required to display a similar decal in the rear window
of said vehicles no larger than three and one-half inches in diameter.
This ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon its adoption.
