HomeMy WebLinkAboutJune 6th, 2013 CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE PARKS AUTHORITY ADVISORY BOARD REGULAR MEETING June 6, 2013 Call to order The regular meeting of the Jeffersonville Parks Authority Advisory Board was called to order at 2:08pm by Board Member Scott Edwards. Roll CaII Board Members present were Scott Edwards, Ted Throckmorton, Nikki Dillon, Kevin Burke and Sandy Knott. Others present Paul Northam, Jeff Parks Director and Julie Semones, Jeff Parks Administrative Assistant. Approval of minutes Motion by member Knott, second by member Burke to approve the minutes of the May 2, 2013 meeting minutes as presented. Motion carried. Review of claims Director Northam explained several claim inquiries: - temler plumbing & irrigation claims were for repair services. <efund claims were for 3 on 3 basketball tournament which was pushed to July, due to schedule conflicts. Motion by Member Throckmorton, second by member Burke to approve claims as presented. Motion carried. Guests Connie Sellers & Lisa Gill, Jeff Parks Authority Board and City Council members and Richard Eklund New Business Moving the 20 -25 year old Colston Playsquare scoreboard to another Jeff Parks facility, such as to the Shannon Memorial baseball fields and other alternative locations were discussed. It was suggested a framed picture of the scoreboard could be posted at Nachand Fieldhouse for historical purposes. New state champ sign installments have been delayed due to exact placement locations; moving of the city signs at exit 0 & 10 Street were discussed due to the State requested of removal due to the new bridge construction, any signs not removed by the deadline will be disposed of. Director Northam will investigate the outside entry lighting at the Fieldhouse. Placement of the Thomas Jefferson plaque in Warder Park next to the walkway was discussed. Big 4 walkway opening will be delayed until November because of lighting change issues. Report from Advisory Boards Member Knott presented the May Parks Facilities meeting minutes (See handout attached hereto & made a part ereof). Due to 10 Street Redevelopment — the Baird building at French & 10 Streets will be torn down; the request for chat space to be used for Bob Hedge additional parking spaces is still pending. Newly renovated Vissing Park grand opening ceremony is planned for Saturday June 22, 2013 at 11am. The soccer & multiplex building (JAM center) is on hold for now, plans are being revised to reduce cost. The soccer & multiplex building (JAM center) is on hold for now, not cancelled. Koetter Construction has volunteered to reset the damaged pavers at Warder Park to increase safety of the walkway. 'Member Dillon presented the May 2013 Program updates. (See handout attached hereto & made a part hereof). Member Burke presented the May 2013 Special Events /RiverStage update. (See handout attached hereto & made a part hereof). RiverStage schedule flyers were mailed last week. Member Edwards had no May 2013 Sports & Athletic updates. Director Northam stated the concrete wall at the softball field will be padded due to player safety concerns. Announcements Member Burke stated the Jeff baseball team will be playing semi state game this Saturday at 4pm. Last Friday the Crusade cookout event raised $4700, Mr. Throckmorton was recognized for 60 years of service to the Crusade for Children. Member Knott announced the Cherry Hill neighborhood yard sale this Saturday 8a -2p. JeffFest at preservation station will be this Saturday 11a -4p The committee thanked council and Parks Authority Board members Connie Sellers & Lisa Gill for attending the meeting, in turn they thanked the advisory board members for their diligence to Jeff City Parks. The next meeting will be July 11, 2013. Motion to adjourn by Member Knott, second by Member Throckmorton. Motion carried.
