HomeMy WebLinkAboutMay 2nd 2013 CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE PARKS AUTHORITY ADVISORY BOARD REGULAR MEETING May 2, 2013 Call to order The regular meeting of the Jeffersonville Parks Authority Advisory Board was called to order at 2:03pm by Board Member Scott Edwards. Roll CaII Board Members present were Scott Edwards, Ted Throckmorton, Nikki Dillon, Kevin Burke and Sandy Knott. Others present Paul Northam, Jeff Parks Director and Julie Semones, Jeff Parks Administrative Assistant. Approval of minutes Motion by member Knott, second by member Burke to approve the minutes of the April 4, 2013 meeting minutes as presented. Motion carried. Review of claims Director Northam explained several claim inquiries: - )wI Creek claim was for the purchase of a used Toro mower for Richard Vissing Park maintenance. isa claim was for the A &E permit for RiverStage Thunder over Louisville band. High sewer bill was due to water leak at the little league park restroom, which is still under investigation, the irrigation leak near the softball field has been repaired. Motion by Member Burke, second by member Throckmorton to approve claims as presented. Motion carried. Guests Dennis Julius, Jeff Parks Authority Board and City Council member Member Throckmorton pointed out that each Parks committee has dedicated members that watch out for the 32 parks in the city. Member Knott and Jeff Parks Director Northam report that information to the Parks Authority Board during their monthly meeting. Unresolved authority issues remain between the Mayor and the Parks Authority Board. State mandated budget cuts, in part due to tax levy regulation, to the Parks & other city departments were discussed. The revised boat docks & Jeff Marina design were discussed, dock fees will increase exact pricing is pending further research. New Business Weeds present in the parks, bio- swales & rain gardens were discussed. It has been suggested that the Parks Authority Board not approve any new landscape or rain garden projects without a maintenance package in place. City Pride has a limited budget; other ways to provide low cost knowledgeable plant maintenance services were discussed. Report from Advisory Boards Member Knott presented a synopsis of the March Facilities meeting: 1 Street Redevelopment — the Baird building at French & 10 Streets will be torn down, the request for that space to used for Bob Hedge additional parking spaces is in the works. Guy Tedesco will be contacted in regards to repair of the Bob Hedge Park statue. Director Northam plans to repair & update the RiverStage message board. The new Jeff soccer facility bids will be later this month, bond funding is planned, and the Parks Authority Board is debating the idea of an outside company versus the city managing all aspects of the new facility. Newly renovated Vissing Park grand opening ceremony is planned for May 18, 2013. Taste of Jeff fundraiser will be on Thursday May 16. Member Throckmorton requested official noting of the invitation to the Mayor and the Parks Authority Board members to the 2013 Jeff parks Christmas dinner this December. Member Dillon presented the March 2013 Program updates. (See handout attached hereto & made a part hereof). Member Burke presented the March 2013 Special Events /RiverStage update. (See handout attached hereto & made a part hereof). RiverStage schedule flyers should be mailed out mid -May. Member Edwards presented the April 2013 Sports & Athletic updates. (See handout attached hereto & made a part hereof). All Sports camp will be held mid July. Announcements Member Throckmorton thanked Dennis Julius for attending the meeting and extended the invite to all Parks Authority Board members; Director Northam thanked the committee members for their assistance in overseeing park locations. he next meeting will be June 6, 2013.
