HomeMy WebLinkAboutmarch 7th, 2013 CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE PARKS AUTHORITY ADVISORY BOARD REGULAR MEETING March 7, 2013 Call to order The regular meeting of the Jeffersonville Parks Authority Advisory Board was called to order at 2:OOpm by Board Member Scott Edwards. Roll Call Board Members present were Scott Edwards, Ted Throckmorton, Nikki Dillon, Kevin Burke and Sandy Knott. Others present Paul Northam, Jeff Parks Director and Julie Semones, Jeff Parks Administrative Assistant. Approval of minutes Motion by member Burke, second by member Throckmorton to approve the minutes of the February 14, 2013 meeting minutes as presented. Motion carried. Review of claims Director Northam explained several claim inquiries: Nugent - boat dock clean up debris disposal; v Pro - monthly contract plus a month catch up claim, contract includes all park camera monitoring and maintenance, the new Vissing Park is not included and will be at additional cost; Rubaiyat - RiverStage winter storage, permanent mooring is being considered; Indiana American Water - Jeff Aquatic Center and Little League claims will be investigated due to all water being shut off at those locations; Motion by Member Dillon, second by member Knott to approve claims as presented. Motion carried. Guests Richard Eklund New Business Director Northam is still working on refurbishment of park & city entrance signs, the vendor has been delayed; Bids are still out for a new Jeff Aquatic Center digital sign. There was discussion regarding the new Gaither Park leaf sculpture, the need for a sign, and how to control weeds in the surrounding landscaping. Thomas Jefferson signage plaque at Warder park was submitted for review (See handout attached hereto & made a part hereof) and where it should be placed was discussed. Report from Advisory Boards Member Throckmorton reported there was no February Facilities meeting. Member Knott stated she is working on a grant for landscaping at the Frederick Avenue building; there was discussion egarding an antibacterial spray at the Highland dog park to prevent the spread of pet illness such as hemorrhagic gastroenteritis; it was noted the knockout roses at Bob Hedge need to be cut back. Director Northam reported Richard Vissing Park shelters were vandalized with eggs, and the cleaner used caused the concrete to stain, however parks maintenance is working on restoration alternatives. I . Member Dillon presented the February 2013 Program updates. (See handout attached hereto & made a part hereof). Member Burke presented the February 2013 Special Events /RiverStage update. (See handout attached hereto & made a part hereof). Director Northam stated the Ice Rink will return this winter despite lost revenue and the Parks department overall budget being cut. Member Edwards reported there were no Sports & Athletic updates. Director Northam reported GRC has 53 teams signed up so far, to play at Shannon Memorial little league park this spring. Announcements Member Throckmorton reported the Jeff Elks club is working on a grant to sponsor golf for kids, hopefully during the Jeff Parks summer program. Director Northam said if granted, the trolleys would be used to transport the participants from the Fieldhouse to the Elks club. The next meeting will be April 4, 2013.
