Re: 10 Street Widening Project
Dear Redevelopment Commissioners and UEZ Board Members:
The Common Council has been advised that both the Redevelopment
Commission and the Urban Enterprise Zone will be contributing funds and will otherwise
be involved with various aspects of the 10 Street widening project. The Council
supports moving forward with this project to enhance and improve that area of 10
Street. One particular item that the Council would like to see added to the scope of this
project is conducting a comprehensive study to examine the specific characteristics and
nature of this part of 10 Street, such as but not limited to, the demographics of the local
population, the mixture of the type of retail businesses, signage issues, aesthetics issues,
the type of property owners and any other relevant economic or financial data.
The Council believes that the benefits of conducting such a comprehensive study
and utilizing the information revealed in such a study will provide assistance in the
overall vision and guidance of the 10 Street project. To maximize the potential and
usefulness of this project, the Council believes that it should involve more than just a
widening of the roadway. A comprehensive study conducted and utilized appropriately
can maximize the effectiveness of the expenditure of funds and obtain the optimal
economic results for this project.
Thank you for your consideration of this matter.
Sin erely,
Att§
