Home My WebLink About2012-OR-67 (2) ( 7 1 ORDINANCE NO 2012-OR- 21112 AN ORDINANCE RE- DISTRICTING COMMON COUNCIL DISTRIC 4fi QanwieVilig CIRCUIT DOUR` WHEREAS, the Common Council for the City of Jeffersonville, Clark County Indiana (her=einafter the "Common Council "), is the City's statutory Fiscal and Legislative Bodies; WHEREAS, pursuant to I.C. 36- 4 -6 -3, the City is a second -class city and is divided into six (6) council districts and three (3) at -large representatives; WHEREAS, pursuant to LC_ 36- 4- 6 -3(g), a re- districting is required during the second year after a year in which a federal decennial census is conducted, and the most recent federal decennial census was conducted in calendar year 2010, and calendar year 2012 is the second year after the 2010 federal census; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council that the six (6) council districts shall comprise the following: Districts: Precincts: District 1: Jeffersonville 1,2,3,4,5,(part of 6) District 2: Jeffersonville (part of 6 ),8,12,14,15,16 District 3: Jeffersonville 7,20,21 ,22,23,(part of Utica 2),Utica Jeff City 19 District 4: Jeffersonville 17,18,25 District 5: Jeffersonville 9,10,11,11A,1 3, (past of 24) District 6: Charlestown 7, Jeffersonville (part of 24), Utica (part of 2),3,4 {SEE ATTACHED MAPS OF THE SIX (6) COUNCIL DISTRICTS. LARGER MAPS WILL BE MAINTAINED IN THE CITY CLERK'S OFFICE FOR REVIEW.] BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that the Common Council finds that the above - referenced districts are (1) composed of contiguous territory, except for territory that is not contiguous to any other part of the city; (2) are reasonably compact; (3) do not cross precinct boundary lines, except in those instances where the particular district would not otherwise contain, as nearly as is possible, equal population; and (4) contain, as nearly as is possible, equal population. THIS ORDINANCE shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage by the Common Council and approved by the Mayor.
