HomeMy WebLinkAbout1993-R-28'ro BEAFFIRVI THE CQVMI'I1VIEI~ ~O AFFIRV[&TIVE ACTICi9 AI~ l~[l',[l~IC PARITY FI~ MllilIITII~ IN ~ CI1¥ (~F WrlEREAS, the City of Jeffersonville Coumon Council adopted an Affirmative Action Program in March, 1975, to improve er~loyment opportunities for members of minority groups through recruitment and trainiugprojects; and, WHEREAS, the City of Jeffersonville Comnon Council also adopted Ordinance No. 85-C~-57 in October, 1985, establishing the Comuission on Human Relations to further advance the ideas of equal opportunity in all facets of Jeffersonville's citizens' lives; and, WI~EREAS, the Cemuission's overriding goal was, and is, that Jeffersonville would provide all citizens an equal opportunity for education, employment, business, access to public accomuodations, and acquisition through purchase or rental of real property, including housing; and, W-i~I%FAS, the City of Jeffersonville and its Cornuon Council continue to work closely with public and private agencies dedicated to bringiug parity to this comuunity through enrployment, investment, re-investment, and economic development opportunities for minority groups; LET IT Big RESC~VI~ BY ~ ~ COCI~IL C~ ~ cI~rg jlf,~ T.T.~. 5IIAT: The City of Jeffersonville makes a firm c(~nuitment to furthering opportunities for minority groups in the caurnnity through employment, investment, re-investment, and economic development opportunities. The Corar~n Council, in conjunction with the Cornuission on Hurnan Relations and other comuunity agencies, will work to design, implement, and monitor reporting/review methods to assure compliance to Ordinance No. 85-C~-57 by local businesses and citizens. The Conmon Council strongly supports Minority and Women Business Enterprise participation in the potential g~ming operation to be located in Jeffersonville, as set forth in IC 4-33-14, '~]inority and Business Participation," and Addendom #2 to "Request for Proposal and to Lease Property for Develol~nent and Operation of Riverboat C~ming Facility."
