A RESOLUTION IN FAVOR OF EXPEDITING
A REFERENDUM ON RIVERBOAT GAMBLING
WHEREAS, the legislature of the State of Indiana has recently enacted a law which
creates a Gaming Commission and which permits Riverboat Gambling in Cities and
Counties contiguous to the Ohio River, such as Jeffersonville; and
WHEREAS, a prerequisite to obtaining a licensed Riverboat gambling facility is
to conduct a local referendum vote indicating that the electorate is favor of Riverboat
Gambling within the County; and
WHEREAS, the location of a Riverboat Gambling facility within the City of
Jeffersonville could produce additional revenues which could be used for the operation of
the City and Clark County;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Conunon Council of
the City of Jeffersonville that the Common Council and Executive snpport all efforts to
expedite a referendum vote on the acceptability of River Boat Gambling in the City of
Jeffersonville and Clark County, Indiana, in November of 1993, so that the desirability of
Riverboat gambling to the electorate can be immediately ascertained.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City should seek funding from private
sources with which to pay for the local referendum vote.
All of which is resolved by the common council on this 6th day of July, 1993.
