Home My WebLink About2012-OR-25 Veto Override CERTIFICATE OF OVERRIDE OF MAYOR'S VETO OF ORDINANCE 2012 -OR -25 The undersigned , as the duly appointed President of the Common ouncil of the City of Jeffersonville, Indiana, hereby certifies that on the day of , 'e 12, the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville, Indiana, at its first regular or special meeting following either (i) the express veto of the above - referenced Ordinance by the Mayor of Jeffersonville within (10) days after its presentation to him by the City Clerk, or (ii) the failure of the Mayor of Jeffersonville to either approve or veto the above- referenced Ordinance within ten (10) days after its presentation to him by the City Clerk, PASSED and ADOPTED the above - referenced Ordinance over the veto of the Mayor of Jeffersonville by a two - thirds (2/3) vote of its entire membership. The provisions of the above- referenced Ordinance shall be fully effective from and after such action of the Common Council in accordance with the provisions of Indiana law. %JJ41i . - E 1 ZASTAWNY, President of the Jeffersonville Common Council Attest: i:ejeA: VICKI CONLIN, City Clerk BEFORE THE COMMON COUNCIL FOR THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE STATE OF INDIANA IN THE MATTER OF THE VETO OF ORDINANCE NO. 2012-0R-25 VETO AND STATEMENT OF REASONS Comes now the Mayor for the City of Jeffersonville, Mike Moore, having reviewed Ordinance No 2012- OR -25, "An Ordinance Abolishing Inactive Non- Mandatory Boards and Commissions" hereby vetoes said ordinance and in support states the following reasons: 1. While these boards are presently inactive, they are useful and beneficial to the community. 2. If these boards were active, they would provide an opportunity for more citizen participation in local government. 3. The existence of an active Tree Board (2004- OR -21) is a requirement for the City of Jeffersonville to be designated as a "Tree, USA" community. Such a designation is shows that our city cares about the environment and provides opportunities for grants to help alleviate the tax burden. 4. The existence of an active Human Relations Commission (1993- OR -27) is necessary to ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws ry p prohibiting discriminatory practices. 5. The existence of an active Board of Ethics (2007- OR -56) is essential to ensure that the public has confidence in the integrity, independence and impartiality of those who are elected to public office. Such a board guarantees that the public office and employment with the city not be used for personal gain, and that the P ublic have full confidence in the integrity and fair and honest administration of government. SO VETOED ON THIS \ day of JUNE, 2012 a '3 S m , Mike Moor - Mayor ATTEST: CO/dRA Vicki Conlin Clerk 5.; fr di fi ORDINANCE NO 2012 -OR- v't AN ORDINANCE ABOLISHING INACTIVE NON - MANDATORY BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS WHEREAS, the Common Council for the City of Jeffersonville, Clark County Indiana (hereinafter the "Common Council "), as the City's statutory Fiscal and Legislative Bodies, has previously established various boards and commissions which are not mandatory under Indiana Law and which were established solely pursuant to the Council's discretion. WHEREAS, the said various boards and commissioners have become inactive and no longer provide any useful purpose and benefit to the regular business of the City. WHEREAS, the Council now finds and determines that the following inactive boards and commissions as identified below are hereby abolished: 2004 -OR -21 City Tree Board 1993 -OR -27 Human Relations Commission 2007 -OR -56 Campaign Finance 2009 -OR -12 A Sustainable Jeffersonville Committee NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council that the above - referenced inactive boards and commissions are hereby abolished. THIS ORDINANCE shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage by the Common Council and approved by the Mayor.
