Ordinance 2011 -OR -1
An Ordinance Establishing Pension Benefits for a Firefighter's Surviving Spouse
Who is a Member of the 1937 Firefighter's Pension Fund
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City ofJeffersonville, in accordance with I.C.
36- 4 -6 -2, is the city legislative body.
WHEREAS, by Indiana law thc Common Council is authorized to adopt ordinances and
resolutions concerning the compensation of its Police and Fire Departments.
WHEREAS, according to LC. 36 -8 -7 -12.2 establishes thc standards for the benefit that a
surviving spouse ofa member of the 1937 firefighter's Pension Fund.

WHEREAS, a surviving spouse ofa firefighter who was a member of the 1937
Firefighter Pension fund shall be entitled to those benefits set out by law, and/or by
ordinance:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED as follows:
That the surviving Spouse ofa Firefighter, who was as member of the 1937 Firefighter's
Pension Fund, I.C. 36 -8 -7 et. sec., shall be paid 50% of the annual "Pension Base" salary
as designated within the Jeffersonville Firefighter's Contract. Said benefit shall be paid
each year, on a monthly basis, for the balance of the Spouse's life.
This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon its adoption
