AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 2000-OR-28 AND 90 -OR -9
ESTABLISHING A SPAY - NEUTER PROGRAM FOR ANIMALS ADOPTED FROM
THE JOSEPHINE B. OGLE ANIMAL SHELTER
WHEREAS, in 1990, and again in 2000, the Jeffersonville Common Council adopted an
ordinance establishing a spay - neuter program for animals adopted from the Jeffersonville -Clark

WHEREAS, often owners of animals adopted from the Shelter fail to have the spay/
neuter procedure performed after they adopt the animal even though they have paid the necessary
fee for the spay/ neuter procedure and received a voucher, and
WHEREAS, the Council believes that spaying and neutering animals before new owners
are allowed to take possession of animals adopted from the Shelter will reduce the population of
unwanted animals over the course of time; and
WHEREAS, the City of Jeffersonville wishes to hire a Shelter Veterinarian capable of
performing all spay/ neuter procedures on site at the Shelter prior to allowing new owners to take
possession of animals adopted from the Shelter and wishes to pay the Shelter Veterinarian a
