Resolution No. 2010-R-35
Resolution Supporting The Withdrawal of The City of
Jeffersonville from the Clark County Solid Waste Management
District Curbside Recycling Program
WHEREAS, the City of Jeffersonville and its citizens
(hereinafter referred to as the "City ") has been an active
member of the Clark County Solid Waste Management District
for approximately 20 years;
WHEREAS, the City understands the importance of
recycling and thanks the Clark County Solid Waste District
(hereinafter referred to as the "District ") for their
continued efforts and services in making Clark County and
Jeffersonville a more sustainable community;
WHEREAS, the District will not be permitted to charge
the citizens of Jeffersonville for curbside recycling after
the City withdrawals;
WHEREAS, the City will continue to participate in all
other programs provided by the District;
WHEREAS, the District currently charges single family
dwellings, multi - family dwellings, structures and /or
dwelling units, mobile home pads, other lots plus additions
and businesses ($34) thirty -four dollars per annum for
those who benefit from the curbside recycling service
(2003 -R -001 Resolution Amending Solid Waste Fee Schedule);
WHEREAS, the District currently subcontracts with
INLAND Service Corporation (hereinafter referred to as
"INLAND ") for its curbside recycling program;
WHEREAS, it is anticipated that for the fiscal year of
2011, INLAND will be raising their price for curbside
recycling by ($6) six dollars per annum, whereby increasing
the rates on the citizens of Jeffersonville to ($40) forty
dollars per annum for curbside recycling;
WHEREAS, the City can provide the same curbside
recycling at a reduced rate, thus continuing to adhere to
the Clark County Waste Management District Plan and save
the citizens of Jeffersonville money;
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED THAT:
A. THE CITY COUNCIL OF JEFFERSONVILLE RECOMMENDS
THAT THE CITY NO PARTICIPATE IN THE CLARK COUNTY
WASTE MANAGEMENT DISTRICT'S CURBSIDE RECYCLING
SERVICES AS OF JANUARY 1, 2011.
B. WHEREAS,THE CITY COUNCIL SUPPORTS THE CITY
ENTERING INTO COMPETITIVE NEGOTIATIONS WITH THOSE
ENTITIES INVOLVED IN RECYCLING MANAGEMENT IN
ORDER TO SECURE THE CITIZENS OF JEFFERSONVILLE A
FEE WHICH IS LESS THAN THAT FEE TO BE CHARGED BY
INLAND SERVICE CORPRATION.
C. WHEREAS, THE CITY COUNCIL SUPPORTS THE EXECUTIVE
BRANCH OF GOVERNMENT IN ITS EFFORTS TO ORGANIZE
SAID RECYCLING PROJECT.
