A RESOLUTION IN OPPOSITION TO ANY TOLLS ON THE KENNEDY, CLARK MEMORIAL, AND
SHERMAN MINTON BRIDGES AND / OR THE INTERSTATE CONNECTORS (I-64, I-65; AND I.71) AND
SUPPORTING MORE CROSS-RIVER CONNECTIONS.
WHEREAS, The issue surrounding the Ohio River Bridges project inasmuch produce a real and direct impact on the
citizens, economy and cultural well-being of our community; and
WHEREAS, A financial arrangement involving various tolling scenarios that would result in the imposition of tolls on
new and existing Ohio River Bridges and / or tolls on the Interstate connectors (I-64, I-65, and I-71) is currently
under consideration, and has received strong opposition from the citizens of this and neighboring communities; and
WHEREAS; The Ohio River should serve as the center of unity, not as a barrier dividing the states of Indiana and
Kentucky; and
WHEREAS, It is a flawed policy to place tolls on existing transportation infrastructure; and
WHEREAS, It is fundamentally wrong to force tolls on hard-working citizens from Jeffersonville whose livelihood
depends on jobs in Kentucky, or Kentucky residents whose livelihood depends on jobs in Indiana; and .
WHEREAS, the three bridges (Clark Memorial, Kennedy and Sherman Minton) connecting Indiana and Kentucky are
essential links in the growth and economic development of the community; and
WHEREAS, the imposition of tolls on existing transportation infrastructure may threaten business and working
families of the community.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION ONE: The Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville, by this resolution, states that it is opposed to any
tolls on the Kennedy, Clark Memorial, Sherman Minton and / or the Interstate connectors while still supporting
additional cross-river connections; and further states that the best policy for the economic well-being of the region is
for the Ohio River Bridges Project to be built in affordable phases that can be financed without tolls; and which
connect our communities in a reasonable and affordable way.
