HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010-R-03Jeffersonville Board of Public Works and Safety • Wednesday, July 7, 2010 Resolution 2010-R- Advertising Standards for One Great Community, The City of Jeffersonville's Community Newsletter Advertising Philosophy Advertising in One Great Community must not conflict with the newsletter's purpose of providing the City of Jeffersonville's residents and business owners with fact-based information relating to city government, the community at-large and the surrounding region as it may affect the City of Jeffersonville Advertising that conflicts with Federal Trade Commission Advertising Guidelines (found online at www.ftc.gov/bcp/guides/guides.shtm) shall not be accepted. The Jeffersonville Board of Public Works and Safety reserves the right to reject any advertising that it deems contrary to One Great Community's stated purpose. Prohibited Content ~ 1. Advertising that is false, misleading, fraudulent or deceptive. 2. Advertising that states or implies the endorsement of a business, product or service by the City of Jeffersonville. Advertisers who participate in the City Partnership Program are permitted to reference their participation in the City Partnership Program in One Great Community ads. 3. Advertising from any group identified by the Southern Poverty Law Center and/or other credible organization as a hate group. 4. Advertising that is political in nature, including, but not limited to, advertising that advocates or opposes one or more candidates, political parties or political action committees or other groups whose primary purpose involves a political agenda. 5. Advertising from media outlets whose standards do not comply with acceptable journalism guidelines for ethics and standard, responsible reporting practices such as those prescribed by the Society of Professional Journalists, the Society of Professional Journalists Citizen Journalism. Academy, the National Association of Citizen Journalists or similar organization that offers training and a code of ethics that encourages sensible guidelines for professional, student or citizen journalists. 6. Advertising cannot contain, facilitate, promote or reference the following or any business, organization, group or other entity that engages in the following as its primary purpose: a. The violation of local, state or federal civil or criminal law; b. Offensive, profane, vulgar or inappropriate language; c. Obscene, defamatory, libelous, slanderous and/or unlawful content; d. Alcohol products; • e. Tobacco products; £ Ammunition, firearms, paintball guns, bb guns or weapons of any kind; • g. Gambling that is unregulated by the United States of America or one or more tribe recognized by the Bureau of i can states, commonwealths or Native Amer Indian Affairs; h. i Scams, illegal activity or chain letters; Contests or sweepstakes, unless authorized by the Jeffersonville Board of Public . j. Adult phone lines or Web sites with a sexual emphasis; n. Adult toys, videos or other adult products; o Uncertified pharmaceutical products; . p. Unlicensed therapy services, such as an unlicensed masseuse; q. Surveillance equipment; r. Non-accredited colleges; s. t. • Inflammatory religious content; Politically religious agendas and/or any known associations with hate, criminal u and/or terrorist activities; Content that exploits political agendas or uses "hot button" issues for commercial . purposes, regardless of whether the advertiser has a political agenda; directed at an individual or group, and whether based upon th h v. er e Hate speech, w the age, disability, race or ethnicity, creed, national origin, religious affiliation, e of such individual ua lan it id g g y or ent marital status, sexual orientation, gender or group; w. Content that advocates against any organization, person or group of people; x. Content that depicts a health condition in a derogatory or inflammatory way or misrepresents a health condition in any way. Severability artnershi co oration, If any provision of this resolution or application thereof to any person, p P~ ~ organization, association or group is held unlawful or otherwise invalid, such invalidity does not affect other provisions or applications of this resolution which can be given effect without the invalid application or provision. To this end, each such invalid provision or application of this resolution is severable it is hereby declared to be the intent of the Jeffersonville Board of Public Works and Safety that this resolution would have been issued had any such unlawful or otherwise invalid provision or application not been included. • • This resolution is in effect upon its adoption by the Jeffersonville Board of Public Works and Safety on Wednesday, July 7, 2010. ,T r.~-, ~.
