A Resolution Encouraging The State of Indiana
To Provide Necessary Financial Support To
Insure the Construction of the Ohio River Bridges
Whereas, the citizens of the City of Jeffersonville and the State of Indiana will
substantially benefit from the construction of the Ohio River Bridges;
Whereas, the citizens of the City of Louisville and the Commonwealth of
Kentucky will substantially benefit from the construction of the Ohio River Bridges;
Whereas, the Commonwealth of Kentucky's portion of the costs for construction
of the bridges has been set at $2.9 Billion Dollars;
Whereas, the State of Indiana's portion of the costs for construction of the
bridges has been set at $1.1 Billion Dollars;
Whereas, the United States Federal Government has established that it shall
pay $4.1 Billion Dollars as its portion of the construction project;
Whereas, the Speaker of the Kentucky Senate, David Williams, has stated that it
is his position that a bridge toll is necessary to fund the Commonwealth's portion of the
project and/or Sen. Williams has advocated leasing the bridge to a private entity to
operate;
Whereas, bridge tolls are disfavored by the general citizenry of both Indiana and
Kentucky;
Whereas, the Jeffersonville City Council understands that the bridge funding
formula has been developed for the purpose of insuring that each state pays its just and
fair portion based upon the location of the state's boundaries, projected uses and other
economic, geography and political determinations;
Whereas, it is the desire of the Jeffersonville City Council to encourage the State
of Indiana and its elected officials, both local, state and federal, to undertake any and
all steps to expedite the construction of the bridge;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
1. The Jeffersonville City Council requests our United States Congressmen, and
United State's Senators to pursue any and all efforts of expediting the funding of

determine if the State of Indiana has any additional transportation funds
available to pay upon the project in an effort to reduce the Commonwealth of
Kentucky's financial burden in order to eradicate the need for tolls;
3. The Jeffersonville City Council requests that all branches of Indiana government,
local, federal and state redouble their efforts at moving the Ohio River Bridges
Project forward to fruition;
