COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
May 21, 2007
The Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville, Indiana met in regular session
in Room 101, City Hall, 500 Quartermaster Court, Jeffersonville, Indiana, at 7:30 P.M.
on Monday May 21, 2007.
Mayor Rob Waiz, with Deputy Clerk Treasurer Barbara Hollis at the desk, called
the meeting to order. Also present was City Attorney Les Merkley. Mayor Waiz
welcomed all in attendance, asking all those present to stand as Councilperson Ron
Grooms gave the invocation. Mayor Waiz then asked all those present to join him in the
pledge of allegiance to the flag.
The roll was called and those present were; Councilpersons John Perkins, Ed
Zastawny, Keith Fetz, Connie Sellers, Barbara Wilson, Phil McCauley, and Ron Grooms.
Absent: None.
Following discussion, Councilperson Perkins made the motion to approve the
agenda as presented, second by Councilperson Sellers, passing on a vote of 7-0.
Mayor Waiz presented. the, minutes for consideration by the Council.
Councilperson Wilson made the motion to approve the minutes of April 23, 2007 (5:30
P.M.) as presented, second by Councilperson Sellers, passing on a vote of 7-0.
Councilperson Wilson made the motion to approve the minutes of May 7, 2007 (7:30
P.M.) as presented, second by Councilperson McCauley, passing on a vote of 7-0.
Deputy Clerk Treasurer Hollis presented the claim list for consideration by the
Council. Councilperson Perkins made the motion to approve the claims as presented,
second by Councilperson Grooms, passing on a vote of 7-0. Councilperson Grooms
inquired about the claim to Clark County for postage. The City has been using the
County postage meter but will not be in the future.
PUBLIC COMMENT:
Mr. R. Summers noted most voters have short memories. He believes annexation
will come back to haunt the Council. Those being annexed will have no voice in the
May 21, 2007 2
November election. They will do as much as they can. Mr. Summers believes this
annexation is "legalized stealing". "It is legal, but it is wrong."
AGENDA ITEMS:
Councilperson Perkins made the motion to suspend the rules for Ordinance No.
2007-OR-27, An Ordinance Of Additional Appropriation (General Fund-Common
Council), second by Councilperson Grooms, passing on a vote of 7-0. Councilperson
Perkins then made the motion to pass Ordinance No. 2007-OR-27 on all three readings,
second by Councilperson Wilson, passing on a vote of 7-0.
CLERK TREASURER COMMENTS:
There were no Clerk Treasurer Comments.
COMMITTEE REPORTS, COUNCIL AND MAYOR COMMENTS:
Councilperson Grooms thanked Jeff High student Marcus Sperzel for the fine job
of videotaping the meetings. He has received a lot of good comments. Mr. Sperzel will
return in the fall. Councilperson Grooms also thanks Officer Grimes for his attendance.
Council Attorney Greg Fifer said it would be beneficial if Mr. Sperzel could videotape
the annexation public hearing scheduled for July 5, 2007. Councilperson Grooms will
work on this.
Councilperson Wilson noted the Concerts In The Park are off to a very good start,
with 300 to 400 in attendance. She invites all to attend.
Council President Fetz has received calls following the paving of streets with
regard to driveways. Mayor Waiz said these have been taken care of. If not all have
been corrected he asked to be called.

As there was no further business to com before the il, the meeting was
