and printing documents in the database. They cannot perform any
manipulating of data in the database including adding annotations (sticky

97830 LF WebLink
WebLink $ 7,995.00 $530.00
What is Laserfiche WebLink? The WebLink module publishes select
documents in a Laserfiche repository to an intranet or the Internet in read-
only form. Documents can be made available through the Web almost
instantly, and users need only an Internet browser in order to access them.
Built on ASP .NET, Webtink can be customized to match the look and feel of
an organization's Internet or intranet site.
Why did Laserfiche create WebLink? The Internet has become a very
popular way of distributing electronic and imaged documents. Laserfiche
created Webtink to meet the demand for a fast, secure, customizable way to
publish documents in a repository to the Internet or an intranet. The module
allows organizations to make their documents available world-wide for
viewing and printing.
How does Laserfiche Webtink work? When a user logs into Webtink,
WebLink opens aread-only session in Laserfiche and occupies a retrieval
license just as if the user had logged in through aretrieval-only Laserfiche
Client. The user`s rights are retained, so folders and documents to which a
user does not have access will not be displayed, while anything that user can
see in a Laserfiche Client will be visible in WebLink. However, since WebLink
is a read-only client, all users will be unable to change documents in
WebLink, regardless of their access rights. Many organizations choose to
publish public documents without requiring a login, customizing the search
interface as part of their existing Web sites.
~ ~ -
Webtink is the middle-man. WebLink
communicates with the Web browser through IIS
and passes requests for documents on to
Laserfiche. From a user`s perspective,
he or she clicks a link on
an organization's Web site and the document appears in the browser
window. But the browser does not communicate directly with the Laserfiche
repository. WebLink acts as an intermediary, translating requests from the
Web browser into commands that Laserfiche can understand, and vice
versa. Laserfiche handles the security just as it would in the Laserfiche
Client. WebLink's communication with Web browsers is facilitated by
Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS). For this reason, IIS must be
installed on the same server as WebLink.
How can WebLink benefit a customer?
Platform-independent distribution- Whether the customer wants to
distribute documents to employees, clientele, or the public at large,
WebLink provides a means to that end without requiring special
software. In fact, WebLink is platform- and browser-independent.
This flexibility allows, for example, employees using Apple computers
to gain secure access to Laserfiche documents.
Decreased workload- Many organizations use WebLink to replace
tedious work that was once carried out by employees, allowing those
workers to focus on other tasks. For example, many municipalities
use WebLink to allow citizens to search for public information such as
ordinances and minutes. Before WebLink, the citizens from
municipalities like these would request the documents from the City
Clerk's office, and someone would have to pull these documents and
copy or print them. Now, the City Clerk can direct citizens to the
WebLink search page, where they can find and print the documents
themselves.
Flexibility -WebLink can be set up with a default guest login so that
public information is available to everyone, while users with more
access rights can login with their own usernames to access more
sensitive documents. WebLink is built on ASP ,NET, and the visual
design of the Web pages it generates is programmed in the form of
Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), making WebLink highly customizable.
Organizations can customize the WebLink-generated pages to match
the look and feel of their existing Intranet or Internet sites.
