Dustin stated he has been involved since the start of public art, huge supporter and I look forward to helping beautify Jeffersonville with art. Approve Minutes from JPAC Meeting—March 9,2020-Bill Burns makes motion to approve minutes, seconded by Susan Harrison, roll call vote taken. Motion carried unanimously. Taste of Diversity-postponed @ Ivy Tech—Kofi Darku At this time Taste of Diversity has been postponed to late September early October. Just to recap, we were going to have a generational event, having a forum with older and younger together to discuss how the celebrate holidays and how new items, such as phones, have changed the ways of the world. So with this being postponed it will give us more time to plan. New Business: Review of Upcoming Events—Dawn/Andy Dawn said, I have reviewed event from June on due to information Andy received from Department Head meeting this past Friday. Andy would you like to speak on this please. Andy said per Department Head meeting Mayor/Safety Director indicated we will not be able to plan anything prior to June 1 due to the COVID pandemic. But I will keep you informed if this changes. I have had a JHS Senior Mom reach out to me, said Dawn about the Senior Class having a class picnic at the NAC, no date as of yet though. At this time our schedule is as follows: July—black light event at Steamboat Nights, Comedy by the Bridge, and painting with Kye session. August—painting session, Comedy by the Bridge, 1st Pop Up Market, and Olympics at Beer Garden at Fire Museum. September—Pyro night, painting session, Pop Up Market. October-Day of the Dead Festival. November—painting session, Comedy by the Bridge, and Gingerbread house session, this was a huge event last year. December—Indoor Pop up market, painting session, and Comedy by the Bridge. At this time the Elementary Art Showcase is probably not going to happen. Dawn said right now everything is happening but it feels like we are standing still. John said, I think we decide if we would like to consider new ideas—love the JHS student picnic. Back when we looked a long range plan,we,the board wanted to get you help, said Susan Harrison, was you able to get that started prior to pandemic? Dawn said yes, Greg Rush with Abbey Road on the River, which also has been derailed, is wanting to help and also Missy Brewer would like to help with a few events, Stacy Pelkey, will be helping with pop up tents, Teresa Magenity will be helping me to get in touch with entertainers. We have been unable to meet as a group so far, but if we do have the festival in September everything is pushed to same time. Due to being about the dead is appropriate with things going on I think we should just think about this until next month. Creative Creatures—Group Art Dawn was able to show everyone the design. NoCo area businesses are on there with no logos. I think this piece turned out super fun, 34 people put this together, public art commissioners, friends of the arts district and artists—very special piece. Dawn thinks we need to put this on a t-shirt. Susan likes it as a shirt and a coloring page. John said what if we have a contest and the winner's design could be put on a banner or something like that. Kofi said my thought is this should be a logo and be made very special. Susan said we could possibly make this into signage entering the NOCO district. Social Media—posts and updates Andy helped project the images for this conversation this as well. Dawn has been going out each day and locating public art pieces that need maintenance. The bike rack(Jack Rack)by Cluckers Restaurant, the light poles with student art on them at Picasso Pointe as well as the plant troughs and pots are ready for fresh color. Susan asked Dawn if she fixed Joe's piece at Steamboat Park(a piece in the center of the tree sculpture had become lose). Dawn said yes, it has been fixed. Some of our older pieces around the city need touchups and I plan to do that during this down time. The Swing sculpture, which was spearheaded by Sandy Knott needs attention. Sandy passed away recently. This is a very special piece. We have ordered 150 steel balls and Matt Siler will be welding them onto the piece so balls will not easily come off again. We will be sanding and repainting the piece as well. Denise asked if there is a way we can keep track of maintenance, Dawn stated she is putting together a catalog of all pieces and we will be able to log any issues and maintenance completed on the piece. Social media posts, is there something you, as Commissioners want to see on social media? John said I believe showing the maintenance you are doing should be on there. Leslie asked if there is a schedule of how many posts, Dawn said no not that she knows of. However, she has been trying to post at least once a week to keep current information out there. Placard Denise is designing these for us. They will be installed on the bases of each piece on the sculpture trail they will be very similar to Picasso Pointe, is everyone ok with that design? Silver brushed metal just like Picasso Pointe. Denise asked what about putting a QR code on piece, do they use QR codes anymore? Asked Susan. Andy said his thoughts are to put a sentence about the particular piece that people can read and see the artist and what piece stands for. Denise said I just think it needs to stay simple. Dawn said she would like to have the pieces on the website so people can look them up and find out more information on the piece. Pop Up Market Shipping containers are currently being painted with a vibrant and whimsical mural by artist—Wilfred Sieg and the tops are a different vibrant color. We have found some areas with holes that have been patched. We have blue mulch ordered, edging, weed barrier and PV pipe is in. Leslie asked how large is JHS senior class? Dawn stated she really didn't know. Leslie said I am not sure our area will be big enough to host their event. We have some swag items that have come in—cozies, cups, the glass boots so we have a tiny bit of swag for NOCO. Kofi—Good News I have received a grant for Black Male Excellence, grant amount is $10,000.00. So I have been in contact with a few artists about this and already have some excited to be on board. I also thought we could host an African fashion show, a block party, and have African drum entertain us for an event. We will have approximately a year to a year and a half to use funds. I am excited to use this money to advance art, our mission, through African heritage. Commissioner's Comments Dustin—I like everything going on right now, and am excited to be part of it. Bill—Stay safe during this time. Denise—I have nothing at this time. Kofi—I will need help with identifying ideas and people please. I am just very excited about where we are headed. Susan—excited about all of it. I am already wanting to google ideas. Rosy—thank you Kofi for securing the grant. Teah—I am very appreciative of things everyone is doing. Leslie—very exciting time. Congrats Kofi. Everybody stay safe. Dawn thank you for doing all this maintenance work. John—thank you Christy and Andy for getting our meeting set up so we could meet this evening. Dawn—thank you for making this a priority and getting on for the meeting this evening. Please stay safe and take care of yourselves.
