Motion carried unanimously. John McCarthy tells the Commission there is a guest there to speak tonight. Her name is Becky and she is from Wall Street Methodist Church, her and her husband are over the music program at the church. Becky has put together something for Jeffersonville. Hello everyone my name is Becky and I am here tonight, to not ask for money, but to ask for support through publicity. Wall Street Arts Summer Camp will run from June 15, 2020-June 19, 2020, 9:00 a.m.—2:00 p.m. each day. Cost of the camp is $25.00, and is open to 6 year olds to 5th graders, and for all children in Jeffersonville. This is the 2nd year putting this camp on. The children will put on a musical presentation for the community on Friday night of camp. They do a lesson that goes along with the musical,we have done biblical to carpentry. Students get opportunities to try musical instruments, most elementary students don't know if they would like to play an instrument or not but they have the ability to try. We provide hot lunch, snack, and all supplies needed for the cost of the camp. This year we are going to be learning recorders. We have youth helpers from community and we also have community helpers like carpenters that come in to teach the children how to use carpentry tools. We also offer scholarships for camp because we want to make sure all kids that wish to attend are able to. The first year of camp we had about 30 kids and the second year we had about 25 kids. Max amount of kids we are able to have is 35-40. Dawn and I have spoken about the offerings of the commission and I have also talked with our congregation so hopefully this year will be a great year. We also have and Arts Academy—we offer piano lessons to anyone wanting to play. We have 5 pianos and we have young children from age of 6 all the way through seniors. This year we are also offering Community Chorus for grades 2-6. There will be auditions, not to eliminate people but to know who our strong singers are to help with others. Monday evenings for practices and we hope to have two performances this year one on Friday and one on Sunday evening. I would also like to bre part of Christmas in Jeffersonville. You will be able to register for all this online hopefully by Sunday of this week. John McCarthy states as a Parent and Grandparent this has been a secret to me and I am not sure how many others but this is such a great opportunity. We need to help you get the word out to the community. I am very excited about this. So this is non-denominational right?Asks Susan Harrison. Becky said yes, absolutely we want all kids involved. And our Christmas pieces will incorporate all religions and beliefs. Registration for all of this will be on the Wall Street Church website? Ask Teah Williams-Hampton. Becky said yes, and will be up hopefully in the next week. Dawn said we have ways we can promote,we have a calendar on our website we could add this information to and we also have a very active social media page we could add information on there if Commission would like, totally up to you all. John said, I would like to see us put information of there on how someone is able to help with the scholarships. Maybe someone doesn't have a kid to sign up but would like to support another kid. Thank you Becky for coming in we truly look forward to helping you get this information out to the public. N.A.C. Artist Move-In move in is going great at this time, and you will get to meet the Artists here shortly. Comedy By The Bridge— 1st show was Saturday, February 29 2020 at 8:00 p.m. doors open at 7:00 p.m. month beginning in April there will be 2 shows a month. All shows are 18 and over. There will be a bar set up each event and food will be brought in on as well. This turned out to be a great event. About 75-80 people. Tickets were sold out. Gene Stotz Exhibit— Event opened Friday, March 6, 6:00 p.m.—8:00 p.m., Saturday, March 7, 12:00 p.m.—4:00 p.m., and Sunday, March 8, 2:00 p.m.—4:00 p.m. He was an art teacher and had saved students art pieces throughout the years at the time of his passing her had about 600 art pieces. The neat thing Dawn said, was people coming and seeing others they had went to school with and calling them to let them know they had an art piece there at the event. We had 15 flute players and at this time realize 15 is way too many. 3 maybe even 2 would be sufficient. I think we had about 200 people in attendance. Art Classes being offered at NAC Malliccaaii Green has taught his first class. The students are 4th -9th grade. All kids were very engaged. Class runs from 1:00 p.m.—3:00 p.m. and everyone left with a finished piece. Next class they will be making African Tribal masks. Ivy Tech partnering with JPAC John asked Kofi to talk about this. I hope everyone remembers last month when Robin Harrison came to the meeting and was talking about Taste of Diversity and wanted to know how we could help Ivy Tech with this event. So I have thought of 2 ways, one we can just set up a table with literature about what the Commission does and maybe show some pictures of events we have put on, or we can promote by being involved, like setting up a scenario of young and old citizens about communication, have a panel get together of 3 young and 3 old and discuss how communication was back in the day and how it is now. I am so happy we want to be part of this. Susan said this reminds me of a table full of food if they want this to work they need to include food. John asked if we know times we would need to cover when setting up table to be part of event. Kofi said 10 a.m.— 2:00 p.m. I believe. Dawn said we could borrow some recording device and record the panel. Kofi said I believe this will be a great learning tool does the Commission think we should set up a committee? John asked for volunteers. Teah,John, Rosy, Susan, Kofi, and Dawn all volunteered. Kofi will set date and time for meeting with committee. , go through this when you have time make sure you get a gist of what is going on and make sure we hit high level key points of long range plan. We will discuss this more at March meeting as well after you have some time to look through. $5,000.00 Grant—Mobile Unit Indiana Art Commission loved our proposal, however, 75 pages later they informed us we only had to include a few things we had completed. They now have all the needed information. And we have been informed we received a grant in the amount of$5,000.00. Thank you Dawn for all your hard work. New Business: Greg Rush is the lead artist here to discuss Abbey Road on the River, also Greg is one of our artists here at the NAC. Greg said yes Studio 6. As you know we did not do a new piece for 2019 but would like to do one for 2020. This year's concept is Creative Space for kids target age is 8-10. Name of it will be Octopus's Garden most work will be done by Jeffersonville High School art students, we will have a 20x30 tent set up with a stage, story tellers, craft tables, etc. There will be a large octopus of course. Depending on budget and time we will do what we can. Southside of park by where the line of trees are we will tie ribbons to a piece of art and make that a major focus of event. Dawn stated Angie Wolf, Greg Rush, and the new Jeff High principal, Pam Hall will have met and come up with some really neat things to help with this event. We will have fire and police escort of the octopus to be placed at Big 4 and kids will be able to help set up piece. Shakespeare in Park This event is scheduled for April 24, 2020. We will discuss this more next month. Vintage Fire Museum Beer Garden This event is scheduled for April 25, 2020. We will also discuss this more next month. There will be a lot of promotional things going out please help send out to everyone you know. Swag Ideas for NOCO/NAC Dawn explained some swag ideas-- like this boot for the vintage fire museum beer garden, we will have to order and then we can have our logo placed on them. Just a thought can discuss more next month. Art Olympics I put a call out for chalk artists and we have receive a lot of response. That is an ongoing process. We will have no problem selecting four artists for the first Artist Olympics at the Biergarten! Ivy Tech Josh Kornberg and I met for about 2 hours here at the NAC about Sugar Skull festival, and Ivy Tech wants to reach out and really enrich cultural understanding throughout the community and especially within the culturally rich Ivy Tech campus. He feels that the festival is a great way to engage and has verbally committed $2,500 for the festival, making IVY Tech the signature sponsor. Also, I have applied for a grant as well so there is a chance we chance we will have $10,000.00 for festival. Leslie, asked how frequently are there grants available? Dawn said there is always some sort of grant out there throughout the year, this particular grant I have applied for is a matching grant but we have already spent the money to match. Coloring Book Wanted everyone to see a draft version and that everyone is ok with what is developing now before we get into more pages. Included is "What is Jeffersonville Arts Commission"? and in kid friendly words will be explained. Susan said, I love it. I would like to see font be hollow so the kids are able to color it and maybe leave more pockets for them to color. But I do think it looks great. Also, what if we put in a blank page where kids could make their own artwork. Dawn said, if anyone has any other ideas or would like to help please feel free, I would like to have ready for 1st Pop Up in June. Long Range Plan I have given everyone a copy of the summary version of our long range plan. Please look over and become familiar with this. Dawn said we need to set a date for community Open House for NAC. We need to have table set up and get people familiar with JPAC. I would like to shoot for April 29. Leslie said, that is Derby week, I do not feel like that would be the best week to have an open house, too many events going on in the area. Dawn: I know but the week before we have 3 events. Susan asked if we could hook with our meeting? Dawn said maybe, let say Grand Opening April 13 from 6-8. I believe we will have to move our meeting back to 5:00 p.m. We will need tables for long range plan, events, and volunteers. Pop Up Market All PVC piping has been ordered. Ed Siewert will be working on priming the shipping containers. Wilfred will provide us with an updated mural image for review. We have our concrete pad poured already for the bike rack. I am working on call to Artists, hoping this will go out in April. Commission Comments/Questions Nothing at this time.
