HomeMy WebLinkAboutJFMC OCTOBER 3, 2019 FIRE MERIT COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA Regular Proceedings October 3 2019 CALL TO ORDER: The meeting for October 3, 2019 Fire Merit Commission was called to order by Commissioner Spalding at 6:00 P.M. ROLL CALL:The roll call conducted and those present were President Spalding, Commissioner Futz- Brown,Commissioner Dyson, and Commissioner Smith. Commissioner McCormick Excused GUEST: Chief Eric Hedrick,Joe Hurt, President Union 558, Kyle Patterson,Jason Wisesnauer,James Haven, Bryon Emerson. MOMENT OF SILENCE:Joe Hurt requested a moment of silence in memory of former JFD Chief Ron Collins,who passed away. MINUTES: Minutes for Regular Proceedings September 5, 2019 Commissioner Dyson made the motion to APPROVE the minutes, seconded by Commissioner Futz-Brown, passing on a vote of 4-0 APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Motion to ACCEPT Agenda as present by President Spalding, seconded by Commissioner Smith, passing on a vote 4-0. CLAIMS: None at this time. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None at this time NEW BUSINESS: 1. Zach Stewart,Attorney presented Resolution 2019-R-1 Approval of Three Additional Firefighters contingent on approval by City Council Tax Rate and Appropriation and Salary Ordinance. Mr.Stewart explained at the previous City Council meeting the Tax Rate and Appropriation Ordinance was presented to the Council and passed on two (2) readings and final reading will be on Monday October 7, 2019. In addition,the agenda will also have a salary ordinance amending year 2019 salary ordinance in order to hire the three(3) new firefighters in 2018 and final reading being held on October 21 meeting then a Special Meeting will need to be held to start the hiring process. If the Council suspend the rules and pass the salary ordinance on all three (3) readings a special meeting can be held sooner in order to expedite the process. Commissioner Smith made the motion to APPROVE 2019-R-1 Approval of Three Additional Firefighters contingent on approval by City Council Tax Rate and Appropriation and Salary Ordinance, seconded by Commissioner Dyson passing on a vote 4-0. ATTORNEY REPORT: None at this time REPORT FROM LOCAL 558 UNION: Joe Hurt, Union President Thanked the Commission members for attending the meet and great at the Fire Union hall. Fire Department,through and Executive Order from the Mayor, held a road block and the proceeds raised went to the Community Kitchen. REPORT ADMINISTRATION JFD CHIEF: Chief Hedrick reported swearing in ceremony for the seven (7) new firefighter held families really enjoyed seeing their love ones. Chief Hedrick stated Union and Fire Administration posted on Facebook a post regarding Chicago Firefighter Ernest Ray who is in Jewish Hospital. Mr. Ray has no family in the area at Jewish do to the need of a lung transplant it has been a pleasure visiting with and meeting Mr. Ray. FIRE MERIT COMMISSION COMMENTS: None at this time ADJOURNMENT: With no further business before the Commission, Commissioner Dyson mad the motion to ADJOURN, seconded by Commissioner Futz Brown.
