Attendees: Ed Zastawny Dawn Spyker John McCarthy Susan Harrison Paul Northam Denise Freville Leslie Lewis Kofi Darku Deborah Henderson Rosy Callahan Guests: Andy Crouch Richard Eklund Heather Rapp Old Business Approval of minutes from August 12, 2019— Motion by Denise Freville, 2nd by Deborah Henderson—all voted to approve Review of August's events: Dawn gave an update on the previous month's events: Nitty Gritty Art Show closed at Public Library Lion& Oxen Dedication -bollards,uplighting&placard to come Art Center—front signage,doors,lighting&interior renovations have started!John asked about whether the hallway gallery space would be included,and Dawn said that it wouldn't be at this time. John also asked about the photo biennial,and Dawn stated that we were still following through on that commitment. We will be hosting the w this year, and they will be setting up toward the end of September. Dawn asked f°r help in painting the mobile gallery walls, hopefully the evenings of September 17`h and 18th. ct—September 27th—Up! Up!And,away...Upcycled Art Event 6-9 p.m Creative Impa This was supposed to be in conjunction with a Jeff Main Street event, but that night is being rescheduled. We intend to proceed with our event on the September 27th, and to add a few more activities and a DJ. The Arts Alliance will also be participating in the event. ;< Jack Becker's next visit -Sunday, September 29th—October 2nd -Meeting with a few additional groups, and also finalizing the draft of the details in the plan. Dawn is working with the Steamboat Museum regarding renting the Carriage House for a final presentation. Three dates being looked at S«yr this event—Nov 7th, 13th, or 14th Picasso Pointe Survey(Ball State Grad student—Brian Blackford)share out... -Dawn was contacted by a graduate student at Ball State who is doing surveys "popup ofplazas"popup across the rte,in an attempt to get an idea on community use, programming, how people feel about them, etc. Dawn asked the ;JPACmembers to take the survey, and will probably roll it out to the community as well. '.Si4fostin •g TEAM So1N Meeting in NoCo Arts Center—Oct. 1st from 8:30 a.m.to 10:30(could use help setting up for this went Jack w'II speak to these stakeholders/business owners from across the region) • Dawn explained the event to the commissioners, told them that Jack Becker would be speaking at it, and asked some volunteers to help host and serve refreshments. ative....pact—October 11`h—Calligraphic Holiday Card Making—Artist Jen Grove -Dawn i s working on a poster for her now, and will be setting up for the event as it gets closer. .tom k ' f6 a The next meeting falls on a holiday. Dawn asked about rescheduling the meeting. It was decided that the meeting would be rescheduled to October 21st. Commissioner Comments: Susan-No comments Kali-Appreciated the meeting with Jack last month, but would like to flesh out a better plan of support for the program, staff, etc. Ed asked about whether there was an ongoing calendar that was available online. Ed asked about recurring events, and whether we could plan in advance for those. A discussion about getting an unpaid intern to assist ensued. Ed asked Dawn to add the internship issue to the agenda for the next meeting. Deborah-this year's budget has been before the council. Deb asked about whether the JPAC would be getting an increase in funding for next year. Dawn stated that it wasn't, but that stipends for lead artists would be available. Kofi stated that he felt we needed additional staffing to make the program sustainable. John-asked about the Arts Homecoming. Scheduled for Oct. 24th and 25`h. Asked if Dawn would be going, and if others should also go. Dawn stated that they are asking for public officials to come to the event. It's a$75 registration fee, and registration is now open. Heather stated that a few Arts Alliance members were planning to attend. Paul-Paul mentioned the Steamboat Nights event, including sidewalk chalk artists, blacklight event, and a silent disco. Also complimented the Arts Alliance on the Lantern Making event. The balloon glimmer was impressive, Southeast Christian did a great job with the Kid Zone, and the weather was perfect. Questions-Crosswalks have been painted black, and asked when they would be repainted again. Dawn stated that the street dept had been making repairs in the areas, and they were looking bad. Paul asked about the new development going over the floodwall, and whether the murals would be restored in another location. Denise-There's a lot going on, and she knows Dawn is busy, and she'd help all she can-even if that means finding Dawn an intern. Leslie-Reiterated the need for an intern/help, and how we could make that happen. Discussion ensued regarding how other districts are funded, how many staff they have, and future funding opportunities. Rosy-Stated again that if Dawn needs additional help, to let everyone know. Ed-Brought up decorative sidewalks, and he will follow up on that thought soon. Richard Eklund stated that the QR Code was a great idea on the Paddlewheel was a great idea, and would like to see that incorporated into the Lion sculpture as well. Dawn stated that we would be adding drone footage and the artist speaking into the QR code for that piece. Motion to adjourn by Paul Northam. Seconded by Kofi Darku. Motion passed unanimously.
