HomeMy WebLinkAboutJFMC SEPTEMBER 5, 2019 FIRE MERIT COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA Regular Proceedings September 5, 2019 CALL TO ORDER: The meeting for September 5, 2019 Fire Merit Commission was called to order by Commissioner Spalding at 6:00 P.M. ROLL CALL: The roll call conducted and those present were President Spalding, Commissioner Futz- Brown, Commissioner Dyson, and Commissioner McCormick. Commissioner Smith Excused GUEST: Assistant Chief Bruce DeArk,Joe Hurt, Kyle Patterson MINUTES: Minutes for Regular Proceedings August 1, 2019 Commissioner Dyson made the motion to APPROVE the minutes, seconded by Commissioner Futz-Brown, passing on a vote of 4-0 APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Motion to ACCEPT Agenda as present by President Spalding, seconded by Commissioner McCormick, passing on a vote 4-0. CLAIMS: Attorney Claim for$718.00 presented Motion to APPROVE by Commissioner McCormick, second by Commissioner Futz-Brown passing on a vote of 4-0. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None at this time NEW BUSINESS: None at this time ATTORNEY REPORT: Zack Stewart, Attorney presented his comments on the Discussion from the last meeting regarding Drug Testing. Mr. Stewart reviewed the City of Jeff Drug Policy along with research Federal Testing and testing is done random, reasonable suspicion, or from an accident. Falls under Safety Policy if someone fails testing case is presented to the Commission or Fire Chief. CBD Oil is not legal federally. Concerning testing for CBD manufacture using hemp when enters the gastrointestinal system turns into THC and the research has not been used on humans at this time to have exact effects on humans. THC remains in the blood for 30 days minimum; there is no use type of medication for Public Safety jobs, federal testing is prohibited. Mr. Stewart asked Clerk Conlin to present the changes in the budget from the City Council Workshop on September 3, 2019. The Council lowered the line item Attorney Fees from $30,000.00 to $10,000.00. A motion to ACCEPT the change in the budget made by Commissioner McCormick, seconded by Commissioner Dyson passing on a vote of 4-0. REPORT FROM LOCAL 558 UNION: None at this time REPORT ADMINISTRATION JFD CHIEF: Assistant Chief DeArk the seven (7) new hires three(3) are on line presently, four(4) passed Academy and will start two (2) on Saturday, one (1) on Sunday and one (1) on Sunday. Assistant Chief DeArk informed the Commission on September 16th, 2019 at 6:00 PM is a meet and greet at the Fire Union 558 Hall. FIRE MERIT COMMISSION COMMENTS: None at this time ADJOURNMENT: With no further business before the Commission, Commissioner Dyson mad the motion to ADJOURN, seconded by Commissioner Futz Brown.
