HomeMy WebLinkAboutJPAC AUGUST 12, 2019 4111 JEFFERSONVILLE PUBLIC AR 1 COMMISSION Jeffersonville Public Art Commission Mayor's Conference Room August 12, 2019 Ed Zastawny called the meeting to order at 5:32 p.m. Attendees: Dawn Spyker John McCarthy Paul Northam Denise Freville Kofi Darku Leslie Lewis-Sheets Guests: Richard Eklund Old Business Approval of minutes from July 8, 2019 meeting Motion by John McCarthy, 2nd by Kofi Darku—all voted to approve Review of July events: Glass Lampworking Wine walk—Dawn said this turned out to be a great night and everyone that come through loved the event. My question to the board is, would we like to do this again? Paul Northam: yes John McCarthy: If we do this on a regular basis it could for sure bring people into the arts facility. Leslie Lewis-Sheets: approximately 350-500 people travelled through art center. Kofi Darku: if arts regualry participate in wine walk I believe it will grow. John McCarthy: if we try to promote more with maybe the trolley or something. We can look at route and see what art there is along the route and have someone to talk about the art. Just a thought. Black light Creative Impact Dawn said this event really blew up. About 275 people came to this event. Dawn was able to get in touch with 6 artists and a DJ. WHAS 11 news was filming live at the event. Kofi Darku asked the boards thoughts of doing a coloring book of all projects completed in the City art related. John McCarthy, said if we do that can we make it educational as well? Kofi Darku, loves the idea. The board agreed Black light needs to be a yearly event. Fable to Table—Brian's sculpture,workshops,community making session Sculpture dedication will be Wednesday,August 28,2019 at 4:00 p.m. Closing reception (Nitty Gritty Exhibition) Wednesday,August 20 from 6-7 p.m. Library will be hosting. Food and drinks provided. Fable Sculpture Dedication: Wednesday,August 28 @ 4:00 p.m. @ Picasso Pointe Riverfront Dedication: Monday, September 9 @ 11:00 a.m. (Lunch& Listen) @ Riverfront Jeffersonville High School band was given some money from City Council to come up with a City hymn,the will be playing their City hymn at the dedication. Dawn said we will need risers, Paul said he will take care of that. Dawn said she will reach out to the Portage House and possibly some food trucks to get food. View final NoCo Video: The Board loves the final video. Judge Neighborhood Sculpture Trail Submissions: Each commissioner was given time to look at all submissions. Winners are: GI, Cl, D1,and fourth place is Fl. New Business: Creative Impact September 27th Up Up and Away.... Upcycled Art Event 6-9 p.m. in conjunction with family night, Jeff Main Street is hosting at Picasso Point or inside NoCo arts Center if weather is bad. Artist Trish O'Conner from Michigan. There will also be music and food. Jack Becker's next visit: August 18 —Jack's arrival August 19 —Meeting with Greater Clark School Corp (9:30-10:30), Planning & Zoning (10:30-11:30), Community Foundation& Chamber of Commerce (2:30-3:30), Evening News (4:00-5:00), Evening Work Sessions (5:30-7:30). August 20—Carnegie Center for Art & History (9:00-10:00), Redevelopment(12:00-1:30), Brandon denton (2:30-3:30), JPAC into 2020 (5:30-7:00). August 21 —Pfau's (8:30-9:00). Thinking ahead to 2020 Would like to have ideas for next year for each scale level, ie. Large scale, like riverfront sculptures etc. Sugar Skull Shake Shake festival will not be this year but we will have it next year. Commissioner Comments Kofi: great month doing great job Dawn at getting community involved. John: exactly what Kofi said Susan: Amazing job but my concern is to safeguard our projects if Dawn is no longer with us. Paul: what about the fence around water tower. Dawn said fence can come down. Leslie: love the Art Alliance. I am so sorry I am unable to make more events we put on. Denise: excited about everything. Dawn as always is doing a great job. Dawn: nothing else for now. Ed: the fire museum is going to move or expand not really sure which at this time maybe we need to do some digging just to make sure what is going to happen with our area we are investing in. With nothing further to come before the board meeting was adjourned at 7:12 p.m. Upcoming Dates: Next meeting will be Monday, September 9, 2019.
