April 4, 2019
CALL TO ORDER: The meeting for April 4, 2019 Fire Merit Commission was called to order by
Commissioner Spalding at6:00 P.M.
ROLL CALL:The roll call conducted and those present were Commissioner Spalding, Commissioner
Smith, Commissioner Futz Brown, Commissioner Dyson, and Commissioner McCormick.
GUEST: Bruce DeArk, Assist Chief,JFC,Joe Hurt, President Jeffersonville Firefighters I.A.F.F. Local 558,
Bryan Emerson, Secretary Jeffersonville Firefighters I.A.F.F. Local 558, Firefighters I.A.F.F. Local 558, Brad
Tetley,John Obermeier, Dennis Dierking.
MINUTES: Minutes for Regular Proceedings March 7, 2019 President Spalding made the motion to
APPROVE the minutes, seconded by Commissioner Dyson, passing on a vote of 5-0
APPROVAL OF AGENDA: A motion to ACCEPT Agenda as present by President Spalding, seconded by
Commissioner Smith, passing on a vote 5-0.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
None-at this time
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Joe Hurt and Bryan Emerson showed a recruitment video from the City of Elkhart, Indiana Fire
Department commenting this would be great for the City of Jeffersonville for recruitment. Joe Hurt will
explore possible funding sources in the City.

REPORT FROM LOCAL 558 UNION:
None at this time

REPORT ADMINISTRATION JFD CHIEF:
1. Assistant Chief DeArk informed the Commission the Jeffersonville Fire Department,Jeffersonville
Police Department and EMS will be conducting a program for the students at Jeff High around the end of
May.
FIRE MERIT COMMISSION COMMENTS:
1. President Spalding conveyed he is concerned about the percentage of the 40%written exams vs. the
60%oral exams and possibility of changing these percentages.
ADJOURNMENT:
With no further business before the Commission, Commissioner McCormick mad the motion to
ADJOURN, seconded by Commissioner Dyson. Meeting adjourned at 6:25 P.M.
