Attendees: Dawn Spyker John McCarthy Melissa Goforth Susan Harrison Paul Northam Denise Freville Leslie Lewis Kofi Darku Absent: Nathan Samuel Deborah Henderson Guests: Andy Crouch Richard Eklund Old Business Approval of minutes from April 9, 2018 —revision of previous meeting date to March 12th Motion by John McCarthy, 2"d by Melissa Goforth—all voted to approve Approval of Agenda Motion to approve by Susan Harrison, 2"d by John McCarthy—all voted to approve Maintenance Update Dawn updated the commission on the Monumental Memories piece. It's being reinstalled by the end of next week. The Swing sculpture has been repaired, and all of the balls have been replaced. The Thomas Jefferson traffic control box was vandalized but has been repaired by Victor Sweat, the original artist. The benches at Harmony Landing have been sanded, painted, and reinstalled. Art Scholarship Dawn explained that the scholarship information had been sent to Jeffersonville High School. She's followed up with multiple staff and the principal for a response. Staff felt that there would be a couple of students that would be great for the application, and Dawn extended the deadline for submissions. Sculptural Drinking Fountain Dawn explained that the concrete pad was installed, but someone walked through it and rode a bike through it. She is working on getting the pad removed and replaced. Crosswalks Update Dawn gave an update on the installation of the painted crosswalks. The City purchased a sprayer to help with the application, and the stencils worked beautifully. Call To Artist Live(Riverfront/Bike Racks) Dawn gave an update on the recent art calls. A lot of the original artists for the Riverfront Sculpture have contacted her regarding the call, which is encouraging. The bike rack call is ready to send out, but she's been waiting on someone to get back with her for the location at the Community Garden location. She's now received the location and will be sending that call out this week. POP Placards & Drinking Fountain Placards—ordered Dawn gave an update on the placards. They are in process, ordered,and on the way. New Business Judge Aerial Mural Submissions Dawn explained the adjudication process for selecting the aerial mural. She explained the overview and vision for the project, and the Commission proceeded to vote per the adjudication process. "Warm Welcome" was selected as the winner. Floodwall Dedication (tentative—Saturday, May 26th 11:30...Heuser Hardware would like to cook out) Dawn provided a flyer regarding the mural dedication, and asked the Commissioners to get the word out about the event. Heuser Hardware will be cooking out and providing food and drinks for everyone that attends. Community Table& Site Furniture Installation (triangle lot) Dawn provided an update on the installations at the Triangle Lot. The contractors are working on the Community Table installation. The bench furniture bases have been installed, the Picasso heads are complete and being stored at the manufacturer's warehouse. Stencils for the labyrinth will be ordered tomorrow, and she will be requesting volunteers to help paint it at a later date. Sugar Skull Sponsor Letter(please help find a sponsor if possible) Dawn provided a sponsor letter to the Commission. She asked that Commissioners help find sponsors for the festival, and gave an overview of the activities for the event. She also went over the various levels of sponsorships. Steamboat Nights Update Dawn provided an update for the festival including dates, artisans, returning acts and activities, as well as new activities and demonstrations. An artist will be working on a River Goddess mural. Sidewalk chalk artists will not be in attendance,but they are mailing us the finished piece from last year. We are also working on some magic acts and a lightning bug art piece. A balloon glimmer, wine event, and lantern making will also be included. Upcoming May 18th Shakespeare in the Park—PLEASE ATTEND Dawn gave an update on the plans for the event. The Jeffersonville High School jazz band will be performing prior to Shakespeare in the Park. APA Presentation (May) Dawn gave an update on the presentation that she and Chad Reischl gave last week. She will be sending the presentation out to the Commissioners via email. She gave a brief overview of the presentation and how the various departments of the City are working together to create the Arts District. Community Canvas IAC Presentation (July) Dawn stated that she will be presenting at the IAC this July. Statewide Art District Accreditation Dawn explained that the IAC is suggesting that the City of Jeffersonville apply for Art District Accreditation this year. The application is due this fall,and Dawn may be reaching out to Commissioners to help facilitate the completion of the application document. Member Comments Susan congratulated Dawn on the IAC wanting us to apply for accreditation, given all of the progress the City has made in the past few years. Leslie asked if there was any correspondence between the City and SoIn Tourism. Dawn explained that we meet with them regularly, and that a $1 Million grant was given to the Arts District by them. Paul stated that he'd met with some downtown merchants regarding cigarette butt litter. He mentioned that perhaps the JPAC could consider artistic trash cans for next year. Paul gave an update on Abbey Road, activities, dates, and times. Motion to adjourn by John McCarthy. Seconded by Kofi Darku. Motion passed u a oust .
