FIRE MERIT COMMISSION
The Jeffersonville Fire Merit Commission held a Regular Meeting on Thursday, February
2, 2017 in the first floor Council Chambers, 500 Quartermaster Court, Jeffersonville, IN.

Jeff Frey—Board Member
Bernie Horvath—Board Member
Nathan Masingo —Attorney
Connie Conen—Recording Secretary
GUESTS: J. Hurt, D. Dierking, D. DeArk, M. Renn and B. DeArk
CALL TO ORDER:
Mr. Monohan the meeting to order at 6:OOPM. All commissioners were present. Mr.
Frey made a motion to accept the minutes of the January 5, 2017 meeting, Mr.
Kepfliammer seconded - the minutes were unanimously approved.
NEW BUSINESS:
- Mr. Monohan noted that the Chief has requested 3 promotions—M. Renn to Captain,
M. McDowell to Lt and J. Hurt to Sgt. Mr. Horvath made the motion to accept these
promotions—Mr. Kepfhammer seconded—motion passed unanimously.
- 3 New Applicants— all did the ladder climb and passed the mental aptitude test.
Possibly the results will be in soon and then we will wait for PERF approval.
Hopefully they will be able to be on board by mid-March. They are: Alexander
Kneer, Paul Finch and Lukas Coward.
- Mr. DeArk noted that there will be a promotional ceremony on March 18 at 6:00—
all are welcome to attend. J. Hurt invited all to stop in at the Union to check it out.

Mr. Frey made a motion to adjourn; Mr. Horvath. The meeting was adjourned at 6:15.

Subject: JFD Needed Promotions-resulting from Doug Sneed Retirement
Commissioners,
I request that the Merit Commission provided me with the next (3) members for promotion for the
ranks of:
Captain
Lieutenant
Sergeant
Upon receiving the list from the Merit Commission I will respond via email giving my
recommendations, per Merit Commission guidelines the Merit Commission will then be required to
vote on the final appointment to each rank. If there has not been a change from the previous
distributed current promotion list: My recommendations are:
Captain: Marcus Renn
Lieutenant: Matt McDowell
Sergeant: Joe Hurt
These promotions are a result of a retirement of a Captain from JFD. FYI there will be (2) other
retirements next month, requiring an additional promotional vote for March meeting. Because of this
one (1) Captain vacancy we will need to make the (3) promotions listed above. The promotions will
affective beginning the March 1st, 2016 pay period. Upon Merit Commission approval the JFD Admin
will submit the appropriate HR forms to adjust compensation for the March 1st pay cycle.
